Hello everyone,

It's me again, a while ago I asked how to get deeper bass with my Genelec 8361 here : https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-subwoofer-with-my-genelec-8361a.58510/

After playing around with the recommended setting of you guys, I found that even if the bass improved for me, I still feel like I need a sub in my room. I think I'm a bass-head I guess...

I listen to all kind of music, I could swtich from Dave Brubeck quartet to Katty Perry. I don't have so many limits regarding my tastes, I like any kind of good mixed music, soulfull, and that I can also enjoy with my wife.

For the most curious of you, you could see the measurement on the thread I mentionned, just a quick recall my room has a slopped ceilling and roughly 90m^3 of room (30m2 floor I guess - max 40m2 - I don't have the plan of my house so I can't verify).

Now my question is : which one of the Genelec ? 7370, 7380, 7360 even ?
I must mention that the 7380 new is out of my range regarding budget, however there is a guy selling one in France for 2000 €, but I don't think he would be able to send it, it's at the other corner of the country.

My listening volume on my Iphone app (Decibel X if you know it) is roughly 85dB average for normal usage and 90 (+/- 5dB) dB when critical listening (mostly when my wife is not around or if she is around and want to experience the journey which is rare - a bottle of wine can help haha)

Genelec told me that regarding my room 7370A seems the way to go, the dealer in France told me that a 7380 would be ideal and ChatGPT with the measurement of my room told me that a 7360A could be enough if I don't push the sound to much....

So i'm kinda confused right now - I do have low confidence in GPT's answer's abilities for sure !

Looking forward to discuss that matter with you

Regards
T.

I can also just copy-paste stuff to you maybe ??????????

Absolutely why take Genelec’s advice they only make the stuff.

Hi

In my world view. 2 or more subs are always better than 1. Because of budget issues, I would suggest to get the 12 inchers model , the 7370 A, then acquire another if one doesn't fully satisfies you .. I doubt it wouldn't, but ...
Noting in passing that for the price of one 7307A you could acquire 2 or 3 Arendal 1723S, subwoofers or equivalent.. I don't know if GLM plays nice with non-Genelec subwoofers, but Genelec subwoofers are too dear IMHO. There are many subwoofers that are as capable or better , for much less.

With a single listening place two subs loses efficacy. I would get a single 7370a.

Thanks you all for the serious answer ! Well, it seems I will consider the 7370 if I can't get my hand on the used 7380, the guy said he could maybe send it via special delivery service, even if it's 500 € which I doubt, but anyway a 7380 for 2500 € is a bargain whatsoever :-)
I'll keep you informed

I have both, there is no difference unless you need to get above ~95db with bass heavy music.

30m² with a normal ceiling is about 80-100m³ of volume, right?
Get the biggest you can afford, subs pushed outside their comfort zone are horrible.

I trust GLM does not aggressively fill dips so to loose lots of efficiency by the compensation, but still, having a bit of headroom certainly does not hurt.

Yes, well I'm working on that, I hope the transaction for the 7380 can work, it saves me a lot of money, I saw the rate for shipping are around 250 €, so globally it is really positive if that can work

If I were to do it again I would get the 8351b instead of the 8361a.

Oh yeah ? Why ?

Smaller, slightly more linear and I did not need the extra SPL in my smaller space. You have a larger space and might need it, but honestly I doubt it.

Still I understand the desire to get state-of-the-art. I ended up with 8361a's because I got them first without a subwoofer hoping that would work.

I had the same dilemma, thing is I already own the 8361 and got them for a very attractive price new thanks to some people I know in the industry, so there's that. But for sure 8351 are also exceptionnal speakers

@Mort @Sokel @FrantzM

Hello guys, so I bought the 7380 from the guy, 2500 with shipping a pretty good deal and still under warranty !
As you know I have RME ADI 2 PRO FS and Genelec 8361A, I use the Loudness feature on my RME, I would like to know what you recommend me to buy as cable to connect the sub to my system in the best way, and if you know wany cable that would be suitable for my needs, I currently have the Mosnter cable studio pro 2000 but we can't find them anymore... so I need a new brand for a good price.
Thanks you again for your answers !

Are you ok with analog? Just two XLR cables is all you need. If you want digital you will need another DAC to convert from toslink to coax and then you use a cable to convert to AES.

Yeah of course analog is fine, just wondering how far I should go in terms of cable, as I can't find the Studio Pro 2000 anymore, I guess I need to buy different cables. Anyone to recommend ? I guess it should be shielded at least, but what about the size (2x0,22?)
