Genelec Price Increase

So much for my goal of getting speakers that I can pick up.
If you had my experience you would not even look at the 8351. Also RobL clearly says he’s found the limits of even the 8361. Mass iand volume are good. It only sucks when you have to put it on the stand. After that it dissipates heat and provides better more efficient performance.

Consider this a blessing in disguise.

Any tips on US sellers that give a discount or European sellers that ship to the US? PM if you prefer.

Yeah the person who said it depends on the country was absolutely right. I had my order in already so I just asked for quotes. Mine was ready to ship (finally after delays will be here tomorrow) so I requested a price match and got it. They do not discount but rather they will add accessories as you need. Same situation I faced with buying a Miele vacuum. They will deal but only with accessories. You will pay actual MSRP.

I haven’t found any US dealer to discount like the Canadian dealers. They are scared to death of printing a quote that will anger Genelec and if it should reach someone at Genelec USA.

The Montreal option will save you a lot and if you can get there you see the prettiest city in North America imho. If I had the time and lived closer I would do it. Take an suv and pack it like it’s old studio equipment and haul it back. Customs will ask and you better have a good answer.

Even with shipping it was a lot cheaper. But you have to find your own import agent and that’s a complication I’d rather not deal with.

Also matrix black is made to order and requires 8-10 weeks. My dealer had one shipped to me within 3 weeks. I don’t know how I got it so soon but i’m not asking any questions. I believe in matrix black because while they disappear on their own I really don’t want to see them.

Edit: the color is called mystic black. I don’t know where I got matrix black from.

:) I live there..

I would do something crazy like get those bagels and smear butter over them then mustard and make a smoked meat sandwich with them. Don’t even get me started on the food there. From incredible French to incredible Lebanese food. The people were so chill. I need to make my way over again. Miss that place. That duck tartare. That duck in a can. Who comes up with this stuff?

Plus the incredible Portuguese food. I don’t recall ever having a bad meal there. I haven’t even been to Joe Beef yet. So much to take in. Going to old Montreal saves you an 8 hour flight. How lucky you are.

And I am walking distance from Studio E.. might go shopping for xmas.. and thanks for the kind words. Those 8351 are looking really good, Its in the short list with rtm10, trio 6, kh420. I am currently planning some acoustic treatment before committing to a new pair of monitors.

So at the Apple Store getting my apple care replacement phone. The guy basically tells me they don’t care.

I paid $200 for the insurance and now $99 for the replacement.

The BOM is around $300. They are perfectly whole giving me this replacement and even ahead depending on how many claims are made. They even changed to an unlimited replacement policy.

What he told me is that they consider the other $800 or so to be software cost. He said you already paid for the software and R&D cost when you bought the phone. He continued that they have no problem giving you the physical part for $300 as I have already paid for the R&D and software cost.

Sure maybe the parts cost of a 8351 is less than $1000. Who knows? They got smart about it when they went die cast cabinets in a high labor cost country. With other huge benefits to boot.

The coaxial driver took some R&D to create. Maybe it is $25 in material cost.

An Intel 13900k is made of sand. I can go to the beach and get sand. Or Home Depot. Will it run Crysis? I think not.

In any case it is up to the purchaser to figure out what something is worth.

For me the practical issues and easy upgrade plan is worth something to me. We all budget something every year to spend on this hobby. With monthly subscription for the actual music there is not much impetus to save money to buy music anymore. So next year you feel like spending something you can add sub and integrate it perfectly. Just plug it in and wait 3 minutes for calibration, pour yourself a beer and listen. That may or may not be worth something to you.

Was advised by my dealer that there is a Genelec price increase imminent. Don’t know if it’s Canada only but if you’re on the fence you might want to make your purchase now.

I was told the same like a year ago when I bought mine (EU), since then they even dropped in price a bit so yeah, maybe

Well, yep they jumped up at my dealer today. 8361a’s are now each CAD$1100 more than what I paid 11 months ago.
Studio Economik has the grey version on special for $4,900 each ($2,100 off retail) - that's about $3,600 US or 3,550 euros. That's almost $1,000 CHEAPER than the 8351B.
