Genelec Owners Lounge and Discussion

Wouldn't two 7370As have been better?

Maybe. I'll see. The 7370a have half the amplification (400w vs 800w) so it's not Apples to apples comparison. 7380a should be the same as two.

I don't need two for room nulls because it's a small room with one main listening place.

PJ would be most welcome, let’s see if they actually ever arrive.
In the U.K. Genelec are imported and retailed by the same company different names but same organisation, as an independent retailer that is not a happy arrangement.

It's a little confusing but very cool to hear when the 8030c speakers are connected analogically xlr to the Genelec 7380a subwoofer. It works very well. Of course, the sound is really bass-filled and a bit heavy if you don't use gain in the subwoofer glm settings, but with a lot of pop and techno music, the heavy advantage of the bass is only good.

Here I just mentioned when I tried out a friend's little Genelecs how they fit into this 7380a subwoofer some time ago. And yes, they blend in very well. They even sound pretty loud together. I am especially super super super aware that about 95 percent of humanity has not tried this like this and have their own limits on what Genelec is suitable for and what it is not. What is confusing in general is that Genelec's second largest subwoofer 7380a blends in so nicely even with the smallest speakers, which of course often doesn't even come to mind first. Top products I would say.

I note that of course many small and large studios own larger Genelec subwoofers all over the world. But home users often have smaller models, for one reason or another, and many do not even dare to buy the larger 7380/81 series because they cannot even listen to them properly anywhere. The same phenomenon is repeated in the master series. I can say without a doubt that there is no fear! These cannot even be broken by playing music. These have possibly the toughest protection for the bass when it comes to industrial products in terms of mass marketing in relation to competitors' similar subwoofers.

I don't get how it's similar to 8381 lol

Those make the 'ones' look like art by comparison. I could never have those is my space.

Newest version, the 1238a, only goes to 35hz, F3. I'm surprised they don't go lower with a 15" circular driver. That's basically the same as the 8361a.

The bigger the Genelec master series, the bigger the soundstage it creates. The sound also becomes more intimate. The 1237a a plays beautifully and plays loud and the bass is solid and big, but it doesn't slam your chest. Live music works great, clean and enjoyable. The 1238 a gives everything the same, but the soundstage gets even bigger and live events are much more authentic, and with a subwoofer the 7380a makes the sound sound beautifully explosive, but the slam remains a bit on the sternum unless the room pressure is increased by more boost or you use more gain in the subwoofer settings (depending on how the frequencies/Gain/Q values are also adjusted in the speakers themselves).

But if you put the biggest subwoofer 7381a in the 1238a, you also get a slam on your sternum, that is, a real squeeze and tickle that will immediately raise the ears of every single listener in a live recording and bring deep joy to their faces. Of course, you can also get a lot of joy with smaller models, but the sound limits/db are still distinguishable. I note that these speakers cannot be broken, even if the red lights come on from time to time. These are high-level technology in the protection of a nuclear bomb, as if said with humor in mind.

I note that the Ones series does not give a believable natural sound of live sound reproduction, at least with electronic music. Because there is not enough energy in the midrange compared to all the speakers in the Master series. But those Ones series speakers shine on the other hand when you look at the sound image from close up, the stereo resolution is super beautifully sharp and naturally easy to observe details.

But you still won't get that beautiful natural sound quality of live playback with them, because these small speakers deal with completely different problems in the close monitoring field, and that's what they are designed for. Many people don't always understand the proportions and advantages correctly. If you are a very hard and balanced music listener, not the creator of it, but a NOW listener, then it is definitely worth at least getting to know the Master series at some point. Many people may be very surprised if they get to play with the goodies.

I don’t understand what ‘believable natural live reproduction of electronic music’ even means? Live you hear electronic music through a PA system, what is natural about that? Extra reverb? Crowd sounds?
