Genelec Owners Lounge and Discussion

For those of you that might have the option (from your avr/avp/PC/Mac), do you do room correction with GLM or with something else or with both?

Yes, I got a little bit of this going on using Equalizer APO.

I made the PEQ specs in REW using a UMIK-1 and following a YouTube guide from Julian Krause. My room has a big A2 110 Hz honker.

Is anyone mixing Genelecs with other surround speakers in livingroom ?
I have Marantz sr 7013 with 5+1+4 Canton speakers.
Could i use 2x 8350/8351 as main + 8351 as center and still use my old cantons surrounds? Will the delay in Genelec destroy the sound or can Marantz Audessy compensate?

Audyssey should adjust any delay introduced by the Genelecs or sub, yes.

My Office have 8340 x2 + 7360. There it is heaven for me.
I have an 8330a +7360a in a sitting room and I'm always surprised at how good the sound is. The ones are better of course, but I think the 2-way SAM line is (assuming using GLM with a sub) is underrated, especially the 8330a and 8340a. I don't like the 8320a because it won't do digital easily and I don't think one needs bigger than the 8340 if using a sub in a normal sized room.

My dream has been an 7380a 15" subwoofer which I finally bought used this week. I'm picking it up in NYC tomorrow. 170 lbs!

It'll replace a 7370a.

7380a subwoofer is a real beast, it is just enough for 1238a speakers. So just connect the speakers of the Ones series to it directly and you will get a super uniform artillery fire in analog. This configuration will put a smile on your face in a wide position and with the power of the whole family, and even your friends will love your choice, and without a subwoofer you will not be able to live anymore. Because the sound is always so beautiful and emotional.

Good luck with your choices.

I would love to have that long box subwoofer. The only downside is the 14,000 euro price tag, the weight, and the separate amplifier that you have to put somewhere. Maybe one day this will be the final choice for me. I have heard it up close when watching movies from a couple of meters away, and my jeans flapped when I watched Dunkirk blu ray.

Also, a subwoofer like that with 1235a speakers was once good for a music enthusiast, although the subwoofer was a bit difficult to perceive when the main speakers were already producing enough bass.

I have a very mixed surround system, mainly because I added it to an existing stereo and am probably not anywhere near optimum for watching films but I don't do that often.
My front L&R speakers are Goldmund Epilog 1&2 I have been using almost 30 years now with sound even-ness originally optimised by room and listening area adjustment using the now ancient MLSSA many years before DSP compensation became feasible.
My centre channel is a Genelec 8341a which I bought to see what all the fuss is about :))) and hopefully improve intelligibility of dialogue, it replaced an old Meridian M33 active and the other two speakers are M33 as well.
My sub is also ancient, a REL Studio bought from the factory when Richard Lloyd still owned the company, probably around 30 years ago. There wern't many subs around back then.
I have a Marantz AV7704 and Audyssey does seem to get the timing sorted for watching films, both for all these disparate speakers and syncing with the video.

I had been considering changing the Epilogs to either 8351B or 8361A with W371 but find the looks too dispiriting and I still enjoy the Epilogs hours per day and am probably too old to get 30 years of use out of them. The 8341 looks quite nice to me but the featureless area of the speaker gets too big in the 8361 to my eye.
