The biggest mystery with Genelec is why their subs are so huge, ugly and expensive.

I sure hope they measure perfectly, wish there were good independent measurements of one.

Probably because form follows function.
Genelec decided to have their subs ported but used their own way to reduce port noise iirc. It's basically a coiled up shell of sheet metal that is welded to two metal plates. That is heavy.

Regarding measurements I found one and of course Genelec's own.

Generally, I don't doubt Genelec. But I'm still baffled that no other manufacturer has chosen to go this route if it's so advantageous.

I run nearfield in a 10'x10' room with one gnarly mode near 60hz, so I'm really hoping the second (very expensive even used) subwoofer and GLM will improve the sound. Subs will be on adjacent walls, not opposite which would require I put one directly behind my listening place. REW room designer suggested it.

Another option for placement in a small space, if its feasible, would be to stack one on top of the other. Doing this tends to mimic having an even larger single sub with additional room gain benefits than having them separated in two locations.

It may also reduce middle of the room nulls and cancelations. Just another idea to try while figuring out placement.

I am surprised that they are just splitting the protocols with Dante in 9402 and Ravenna in 9401 instead of just having 1 device do all :-/
Also maybe now they will finally release GLM 5.2.2 lol

Got my second subwoofer. I'm running an 'all'-digital 5.2 system nearfield in a 10x10 foot room.

At first I was worried GLM didn't support it (5.2) because it wasn't in the drop down menu. But that menu turns out to just be a suggestion. I figured it out only seconds before support replied to my question.

I like the extra db for bass heavy content. At high volume it's very noticeable that the subwoofer is close to me by vibration of my body and chair.
But that's quite loud.

Hopefully it'll also help fill in some nulls, although I'm skeptical. Next step is to create an analog system alongside the digital and connect a TIDE16 so I can test Dirac ART with two subs. (I did it before with one and found little difference. ART was a hair better waterfall)

What are you using for centre and surrounds?
Are you umixing to multichannel stereo or using multichannel content?

Got vastly better GRADE report when I selected individual EQ measurements for each component instead of symmetrical.

Yeah, I get what your saying about multichannel music. Have you tried, considered atmos?
Really enjoy atmos music effects.

Probably? It's a big step up in price because I'd have to replace my VanityPro. I am planning to upgrade my downstairs 5.1 HT to atmos with the TIDE16, so I'll get to test it there but that system has a very different sound than my nearfield genelecs. I'm playing with the Genelecs and the TIDE16 to compare DiracART with GLM.

Do you mean to say you set up the subs and speakers with GLM and after that calibration try to run them as subs/speakers without eq, with eq being dealt by the minidsp tide?

That's correct. I'm getting really screwy measurements from the subwoofers. I've got a request ticket into Genelec.

Are you using GLM v5.2? I’m sure you know there is an issue that can affect calibration and a work-around.

Well, I’d ask how it’s working, but maybe I shouldn’t… I wonder if the same work-around might still be necessary?? I’m running v5.2.1 and hoping they will be able to release a stable & working update soon. It’s been taking its time.
