Genelec Owners Lounge and Discussion

I have to ask again about the GLM (Adapter) - firmware update: I get this window when I click on my GLM adapter. It says "Update", but it is greyed out. I'm pretty sure before the software update it was always "Up-to-date". I am logged into my account in the GLM software. So why doesn't it let me update?

The guy agreed that it's confusing, especially because it's not handled consistently in the software.

I didn't know! One could say the same about the 8341a and the 8361a. $5k for a few spl.

SPL gets more and more expensive to reproduce as we get higher.

Yeah they changed a few other buttons that have similar confusion. The 'calibrated' button is similar.

Which is better?


1237 would be ideal flush mounted. I can't see an advantage otherwise but I know Genelec 'home' series and the 'ones' the best. Maybe there is some other advantage.

Yeah. Flat mounting and 3db are the only advantages of the 1238a that I can see.

Sofit mounting is a huge advantage for a few, 3db less so.

Anyway I'm asking out of curiosity. I don't need more than the 8631a. I barely need that!
 
AIs often get the specs wrong.
Under the pretext of wanting to respond in real time, they don't verify much data.
The total amplification of the 8361 is 1,000 watts (700+150+150) and not 800 watts.
 
I would never buy the Ones 8361a models for my living room.I have these 1237a series Sam monitors, and my friend near my place has a 1238a and a 7380a subwoofer alongside. So what do you get out of these? Well, with a more cinematic sound and music, the rhythm also comes out in a completely different way than what the Ones series gives.

The Ones series is a sterile, precise repeater and a fruitfully productive cornucopia of smooth sound reproduction, but completely devoid of drive with live music. By live music I mean recordings from both acoustic and electric bands. The Master series gives a juicier midrange and a characteristic charismatic power to the rises and falls of the sound, always the bigger the models you go. The Ones series 8361a is not capable of rapid volume increases in the midrange, which causes it to lag behind and sound too neutral and weak. Both different series sound quite similar in the final stages, but there are differences.


The 8361a is still an excellent speaker of course, and works better in the near field than the master series speakers. The distance between the master speakers and the listener should be at least 2 meters so that the sound image integrates well.There is no need to make any recesses at all in the walls, at least in your living room if you are just a hifi/high tech and movie/game/music listener. Just using common sense and taking the time to adjust the glm settings to your liking is a very rewarding and fun hobby.

There are thousands of different emphasis on sound images/rhythms available from the same speakers and just by bending the GLM settings in different directions. The Hz /Q/Gain values here are the combination of support leg and heart.With a subwoofer, you will then have a much wider and longer-lasting smile when listening to music, if you want to get one.
 
Should add that the ones now have possibility of fancy colors to match your decor. And unless your SO likes them big, having a compact speaker might be preferable to the monstrosity. Subjective preferences tho.

I wonder what the upcharge on this is? It's only available on the smaller three. 8361a is still just black, white, producer grey as color options.

And that's why the higher price tag is mystifying to me. They don't offer much more (if anything) and are older design.
 
It also could simply be a premium for the flush mount, which would often be used with higher budget installation studios. They also have removable amps that can be rack mounted. I doubt there are significant sonic differences.

Sound quality comparison?

I can say that very, very many would be surprised what/how the Glm adjustments can do between these speakers in digital playback.

We are in an area where there is confusion for many people greater than the assumption of creating better quality as a concept to understand the nature of the playback properly.

Most people do not have enough word structures to articulate definitions.
