8040b's with a rythmik 12" sub.

Genelec subs are overpriced. Why?

Why purchase a 1238a vs 8361a? $6k for a few spl?

I keep reading about their subs being overpriced. Overpriced compared to what?
I own their 7040 and there are subs going 10-15 Hz lower. I was fully aware what I was buying and have absolutely no regrets.
In relatively small room in an apartment building, I would have no use of a sub going down to 20 Hz in that kind of environment.
The integration with the main speakers, Genelec 8020, was relatively simple and easy, by application of their dip switches only.
Could it be better? Certainly. Regardless, I like the sound, simplicity and 5 year warranty.
My understanding is that they have a very low failure rate and they can be serviced many years after they are purchased.

The Ones lineup increased cost in the USA.

Model New Old
8331a $5200 4900
8341a $6700 6200
8351b $9200 8400
8361a $10900 10000

GLM 5.2 is out.

I couldn't find a change log but I only noticed a few small changes to the UI.

Since yesterday it seems. When I click on my GLM device it shows the "update" button, but doesn't let me update. Maybe I'm wrong , but I think before it showed "up-to-date" here, so I assume there should be an update available.

You have to go to the website, login, download and install it. I couldn't get any auto update to work either.

I think I found the big change. Grade Reports are no longer unlimited.
We get 12 lifetime now.
Mine are beginning to tick down.

If you delete an old one you get the slot back?
Don't think so. Each instance of a new grade report is counted, there is no way of undoing it. Personally I don't have a problem with this. Used the report to confirm improved room acoustics. Of course, it would be better without the limit on the number of reports, but for most users this will probably not be a problem.

Yes, Genelec support confirmed GRADE reports will cost money after the first 12 reports. They have not reported the amount.

I wish we would at least get a new set with new monitors.

What would be an ideal way to connect a 7350A to a 7360A? The latter has LFE out and link out but former only has an LFE in.

I was told by Genelec Support that they strongly discourage mixing sub sizes. They had a host of reasons.

Anyway, just use the analog. I don't think you need the LFE at all. Is this true multichannel?

I used some of them when I had the Genelecs in demo.
Now in my account I see the availability of 9 GRADE.
It doesn't seem very intelligent and honest, considering that if one day I were to buy the product I would find myself with fewer reports (when I used it there were no limits...).

Yea for a 5.1 setup, instead of maybe selling the sub maybe I thought I can reuse for 5.2

Ah got it. Mostly it was group delay and bass extension that support didn't like. I wanted to mix a 7380a and a 7370a.

If you still want to do it, I don't think using analog will hurt.

And create a second account for demo's and troubleshooting, I guess? I have used forty or so. The limits seem too low. I have three GLM systems.

There were no limits, nor any other indications.
I usually register with alternative names and emails.
Here, for fairness, I used my real data.
If I bought the product tomorrow and registered it to extend the warranty, would I have less GRADE?
You should ask Genelec if the GRADE is linked to the product serial number or registered account.
If you, the owner, want to do that... ;)
