Those crazy fins finally did it https://www.genelec.com/unio

These have me interested. Knowing Genelec, I'm sure they'll measure excellently.

Interesting, but seems they're intended to be sold exclusively with their(rather expensive) 9320A controller.
I wonder how well that Aural ID technology that's supposed to generate your own personal HRTF from 360 videos of your head and torso can actually work in practice.

They talk more about what it actually is, they don't even want to call them headphones, it's a whole software and hardware system for monitoring not really meant for media consuption. There's a support for head tracking via external webcam

If you can't buy the headphones separately I'd be out; I have no need for the controller. Hopefully they don't cut off a large portion of the market like that but TBD I guess! The marketing does indeed seem to refer to it as a package only. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Surely they must be sold separately from the controller - as well as a package - for customers who already own the controller?

As far as i have heard the people who already own a controller can order a headphone with the serial number from the controller. The headphone will than be calibrated with the controller.

This link will provide more information.

So each pair is individually measured and calibrated? I wonder what they are calibrated to.....Harman?

It does explicitly state they are not available separately.

It is calibrated with the headphone output from the controller. It doesn't state if they will follow the Harman curve.

Availability of 8550A Headphones

Owners of the 9320A can purchase the 8550A headphones separately by providing their 9320A serial number. Aside from this option, the 8550A headphones will not be available separately.

This is stated in the article from the link i posted.

Why wouldn't they sell it separately?
They would only sell more if anyone could buy them

I don't know. If you look at their video they see it is a part of their UNIO ecosystem.

I think you're right that they could sell a lot more of them.

Calibrated in what sense, I wonder? Perhaps it follows/mimicks the response of your monitors?

According to the video it is calibrated with the headphone amp in the controller. What i understand is that the headphone will follow the glm calibration of the monitors, but I'm not sure.
