Genelec 8361A vs Palmer Orbit 11 direct comparison

To me they look gross. They're the speakers only Fernando Botero could love.
I think the Genelec speakers are quite attractive and I can easily imagine them in the living room. I'd prefer them in white, though. I agree with you about the weight and handling.

You actually carried those 8361a's in to the store. Wow! They're so big, so heavy, and so round. Almost no place to get a good purchase with your hands. Kind of like carrying the audiophile equivalent of two greased pigs, isn't it? Don't doubt they sounded bigger than the Palmer's either. Sophie Tucker sounds bigger than Ariana Grande also.

Maybe he carried them using the handle? :)

The handle helps with some grip, but the speaker is completely unbalanced when holding by the handle.

You have to get under them and lift it like those boulders in world's strongest man competitions!
It's not meant as a single handed lift. You grab one by handle and other hand hours on the front face plate for stability.

Me too. :)

The 8361A is one of my all time favorites. It was nice seeing it compared to Palmer, albeit in an informal way. The Palmer is so much smaller!
So it seems, size matters, after all ;)

I appreciate the effort. Don't let the Orbit 11 fan boy army get you down.
anyone thinking Orbit 11 can compete with 8361a is fooling themselves. They can compete with 8330/KH120/KH150. But to those big boys???
Palmer made it clear it's intended listening distance is 1m

I feel that conclusion could have been reached without lugging the 8361s around, but kudos for the effort.

@phoenixdogfan

Well, even my taste has its limits. :oops: My aesthetic dictates: smaller speakers or a bigger head for this distance. Whichever is easier to achieve.
The look of the Genelec speakers reminds me more of the "turrets" from the game Portal, which earns them a few points with me.

Even an 'apple to peaches' comparison would not fit here.

@Mort
I would say the proof is in the pudding: suitable for the living room. Damn, the 8361s are quite big pieces though. :)

They really are. I love them but I can keep them in my home office seen by no one but me.
Irrespective on size, the 'Ones' were outright vetoed in the main family TV room.
They are acceptable in the quirky maximalist parlor mounted on the wall. (8341a)

Edit: For the record, and to keep this more on topic, the ORBIT 11 would also be vetoed in the main family TV room.

Both are Kanto. I had to modify them a bit to get large enough bases.
Ah, I remember looking at those, but the weight limit was 30 and 40 lbs depending on the model.
