Hi guys, it is important to remember that it will be for a professional mastering installation, in a room built and designed from scratch.

I work in another room with 2 x 8351b + 1 x 7380 for mixing tasks, and although I have a flat response, the quality of the bass is not accurate, much less for mastering tasks, mainly because the 7380 incorporates bass reflex technology. and it is not a sealed membrane, so I think that removing the 7380 and adding two w371s will improve many aspects of how I perceive and hear the bass.

If we look at the characteristics of the W371, on paper there are details that are significantly worse than the BXT system: such as an internal bass reflex sub and a variation of +-6 up to 23db. While the BXT system remains constant at +-1.5 up to 20Hz, but this is on paper... It is also true that the w371 allows the option to manage the interaction of the subs with the outside and the cardioid option is a of them.

somehow I have a feel that the flat response in room is the problem, IMO maybe you would want to have it to have a tilt like some kind of target curve (3-6db boost below 200hz?) to make it closer to what a good speaker in a good room should sound?

The response of the room in my opinion is not the problem, it is really good by the way...

I simply want to know which of the two systems is more critical and delivers better sound to be able to transfer our masterigs to all the systems in the outside world with the best possible quality. I was wondering if anyone has heard W371 vs BXT.

We had the Kii/BXT here for a few years and the 8351bs but I have only heard the 8351/w371 combined at the Genelec centre in London.
There they were using sub-woofers under the W371a’s.
I also asked to see the in-room measurements of the W371’s in its three different modes, room wasn’t great but I don’t think you can consider the 371 as a ‘cure-all’.
The Genelec GLM software makes multi speaker set ups a breeze, I can see why studios would use them for Atmos.
Maybe worth a trip to hear the Genelecs in London?

To be honest I don’t think you would be disappointed with either, the kiis don’t have the bass steering of the W371, they are cardioid only, when we had them here I was a tiny bit disappointed with the BXT from a domestic perspective, they added a few dB of output at the low end and distortion was much lower but unless you played them extremely loudly …
The Genelec centre is in Wells Street just top of Oxford Street so very central.
Ensure you make an appointment though.

Yes. On the floor, L and R forming an equilateral triangle in front of a mastering desk with a maximum width of 1u 19" rack. Interaction with the desk will be minimal.

How is the crossover point set in the controlled directivity mode for the Ones? I've heard it only goes up to like 370Hz and often sets the point much lower.

Personally, I have some reservations/questions when it comes to the W371A's ability to extend the cardioid pattern of the Ones down to 50Hz. I'd like to see a combined spin of the overall system in Cardioid mode, as otherwise I imagine a bulging directivity several hundred Hz wide in between where the 8351Bs(what I have) start going Omni and the crossover to the W371 takes over. We have full spins, showing the D&D and Kii systems having a nice and consistent directivity beam all the way down to 100Hz. We don't have that yet with the Genelec system.

Hello. I think that if you had read the entire post you would have seen that it is impossible for me to listen to both systems in any showroom in my country and of course even more difficult to listen to in my studio. Therefore I have no choice but to seek opinions to finalize my choice and try to at least listen to the chosen system when the distributor in my country has it available. Of course it is not the right thing to do, spending so much money without listening to them... But in this range of speakers it is not easy to listen to them. Who has them to listen to them? not even the distributor. All the best.

I couldn't do it and in this case cardioid speakers were the best option, but flush mounting is better and you could go with bigger mains from Genelec or more conventional design like Neumann KH420, which would be like half the price and should sound as good, also much easier to demo

Would you care to elaborate? From my point of view, flush-mounted speakers have some benefits, but a free-standing cardioid speaker that deals with baffle-edge diffraction well, also has benefits. Would you expect to get better sound with a flush-mounted speaker in your room?

Cardioid speakers are effective but to a degree and frequency, I would prefer to skip the back wall SBIR thing all together. Also it opens up the choices to Neumann KH420, bigger ATCs, Genelecs mains, PMC, much easier to find a place to listen to them
