Genelec 8341A SAM™ Studio Monitor Review

That teardown and the published power spec is what I'm basing the comment on.
The larger drivers and cabinet and thus different DSP tuning is what I assume accounts for the loudness difference. All assumptions.
I thought every individual speaker in "the ones" series had the DSP tuning set automatically in the final production stage so any individual drive unit differences were compensated for. Thus whilst the nominal crossover frequencies will vary between 8341 and 8351 with their different coax units the precise DSP correction will be unique to each individual speaker.

This is true as shown in the Produce Like a Pro Genelec factory tour on Youtube.

I purchased new 8341a's to replace 8330a both with 7360a subwoofer and GLM in a 30x15 room.

The differences are astonishing and I haven't even calibrated it fully yet. They go very loud. I was surprised. Not 8351a loud but the 8331a or 8330a are toys by comparison.

And the soundstage was so clear and solid regardless of position. That was the second biggest difference.

I'll have to dial it in more and give some more feedback.

Please show us your corrections and your GRADE when you are finished setting it up. ::thumbsup::

I too have 8341 and 7360 subs and Sam system as a music listening stereo setup on my work desk. Stereo image is great, clarity is great and bass is good and deep with the sub included (much better then without).

However - I never really got them to sound pleasant, non fatigue, non piercing in the mids. No matter what curve I used and how I tweaked them.

Funny thing is that I now use the default sam settings with bass management but without any other eq corrections (no auto EQ and no extended phase correction). With that setup they sound pleasant and good. That is for casual listening, not judging flaws of recordings.

Interesting. I use a Wiim to get a better bass curve than GLM let's me do on its own. Mids might sound harsh of it's too flat.

First GLM calibration looks good. I have not done independent measurements yet.

With a 7360a subwoofer, the 8341a's are impressive for the size.

Sub is under the diving helmet. They look pretty good on the wall I think. I'll clean up the cables of course.

Genelecs are amazing for mounting.
Monitor to MLP on pink couch is 10ft

Who did you order from and how fast did they deliver the 8341? Which color? I’m hearing 6 month back orders at times.

I got white from bhphoto in about a week. Six months!

Good deal on gray 8341a if you can pick up in Central California. $3900 a pair

Quick question: Currently listening to these speakers 'on axis' in an 87cm equilateral triangle.

If I was to toe them out, say around 15 degrees plus separate the speakers further by a few cms (so they would be pointing to just behind my head rather than to my ears precisely), where do I place the GLM microphone? To the place just behind my head directly in line with the tweeters presumably rather than my ears (or forehead)? Hopefully that makes sense...

For room correction the microphone needs to be where you listen.

It does make sense. I think if you are looking for a full room sweep then you want it to be in the place of your head, even if the speakers are aimed just over the shoulder. If you are looking to get individual speaker measurements, aim at the speaker.

And yes, the ones, like most coaxials, benefit from being a little off axis, usually toed out as you are doing.

thanks, got it.. So place the mic in the same place as when on axis, directly at the MLP, which I guess is the middle part of my forehead to be precise..
