Hi all. Ever since owning my 8330s I've not been able to update the firmware via GLM. In the firmware box it doesn't show tick boxes for my speakers so I can't select and change firmware. Is anybody else having this issue?

I contacted Genelec several times but no definitive answer other than they are fine and it's a bug in the glm software that will get fixed in a future update. Well two glm software updates later I am still having this problem. Would appreciate any advice here.

Yes I won't be messing with them especially given the long warranty. It's just annoying that they are not working as they should. Sounds great still but not doing what they are supposed to do. Feels like I bought speakers at full price without full functionality. Where can I find the change logs? I can't even find firmware updates.

I looked around and it seems the changelogs aren't public-facing .

I understand the frustration but keep in mind that these devices are pretty simple. Not much can change or go wrong on the software side.

Also, if you read the version numbers in the screenshot you posted, your speakers appear to have more current firmware than what's available through GLM.

There has been something fishy with the firmware updater in GLM since the last update or two.

If I right-click a speaker>show info it says up-to-date over the firmware button, and if I right-click my GLM adapter the button says update but it is greyed out and unresponsive.

To me these are minor niggles and I believe Genelec will iron them out eventually- Hopefully without breaking something else as Apple tends to do with Logic Pro updates.

Yes the firmware seems newer than the other. I just wish they did what they advertised. It's been an issue from day one and still an issue. Seems others are having problems too going by Gforce problem. I also have an issue with the wired volume controller in that it lacks sensitivity and is difficult to adjust small amounts but that's a minor issue at the moment. I just like it when things do what they are supposed to do. Near enough isn't good enough. Sound quality is excellent so no complaints there.

Software is generally a weakness with audio companies, unfortunately.

I had a problem earlier in the year updating the firmware on an older 82xx pair of Genelecs. The way around it was to install GLM 4.1.1 and update from there. I couldn’t say for sure if that will help with yours as they’re a different generation but I’d give it a try.

Thanks all for your replies. I don't know if I have latest firmware although it appears so assuming versions progress numerically. Pity the glm software is flaky.

I believe GLM bundles the firmwares it offers in the software, rather than downloading them from some server. Thus, you probably need new GLM version for newest firmwares.

I have the latest so all I can do is hope that Genelec fix this. Essentially, the speakers are not working as advertised.

Have you not read the thread?
Yes, I have. And I feel like I just wasted my time.

I am unable to update the firmware. And apart from comparing with other 8330a users I have no idea whether I have the latest firmware.
I already asked you why do you think there is a new firmware available in the first place. And now I ask what is the problem with the speakers that you believe would be solved by updating the firmware. Excuse me, but "no new firmware is available" is not a problem with the product as long as it works normally.

I'm sorry I forced you to participate.

Wow, you really know how to get best out of people.
Both of you are being harsh.

I agree there is no practical reason for concern, but @Willie Nillie has a legitimate complaint that can be levelled at many manufacturers. The software implementation is often an afterthought, delayed, a buggy mess, underfunded, etc. even in the best companies. Audio history is littered with the dead formats and data of abandoned software projects.

Just to be clear, this is technically true, in a sort of lawyerly way; still, an overstatement:
Essentially, the speakers are not working as advertised.
One of the major points of ASR is to assuage the worries of neo(audio)philes :)

Everything is OK. I've updated Genelec 8330 firmware last year, and now I have "never version than on server" too ;)

They working just fine :)

Of course they are. They sound great. But it shitts me that an expensive tool like this doesn't comply with the info Genelec offer on their website. Probably minor issue if any but we didn't pay chump change for these things. I just wish Genelec would be upfront about it and sort it.
