3 months ago I bought two Genelec 8050as. They were amazing and sounded incredibly good but one of the tweeters had a crackle so they were collected to be repaired.

2 months later, today, I got them back from the repair company and they looked like this.

Sorry for the bad photos but if you look closely you can see the edge of the 8inch woofer is held in by screws - about 12 or them. What I'm actually asking is how can this be possible?

I get my speaker back after a minor repair and they come back completely broken. The other speaker is less damaged but when I pick it up and shake it gently I can hear screws and something big and metal moving around inside so I don't even want to turn it on incase I make it worse.

Thanks for reading, any advice is appreciated.

Write the adress of this "repair company". ... yes, your speakers are devastated right now o_O

Can you verify by serial number that these are the same exact speakers you sent out? (Were they new? These look well-used.) Were they well-packaged and did the packaging show any signs of damage? Was the condition upon receipt documented by the repair workshop?

Either way, they look like they've been in a plane crash. I would think that it takes considerable forces to turn Genelecs into a parts collection. Definitely an insurance case either way, the only question is whose.

Seems these guys desperately want to go out of business, if they (after 2 months) aren't already ... . The woofer was taken out for some reason, but wasn't reinstalled, right?

This needs to be taken up with the service center and probably Genelec themselves.

This is the next such case after the Neumann subwoofer issue - and in both cases probably caused by rough handling in transport.
Would be interesting to hear what the (authorized?) service center will say.

Who knows, maybe a truck had an accident, stuff happens, even with big ship containers.

Or someone does drugs at the repair center and forgot 10 of 12 screws... People do unimaginable things sometimes...

I have same speaker with the woofer noise issue. Local repair guys won’t touch it, Genelec just want $$ just to see what’s going on with no guarantee. Thank God I didn’t go with Genelec. I’m so sorry to hear. Heartbroken I’m sure. I needed up opening up to see. Checking wires and clean stuff. Hoping was loose wire but unfortunately it more than that. I’m at last. Just to register here to follow any good suggestion. Wish I can post vid. good luck!

Hi Kaimmy. Sorry to hear you’ve got issues with your genelecs, there isnt a worse feeling!

I just wanted to let you know that Genelec had nothing to do with my repair. It was done through a company called HHB, in the UK. Genelec themselves have actually been quite useful and have asked for updates and have given reasons as to why they think my speakers broke.

Not sure if this helps mate, fingers crossed.

Must’ve misunderstood. Good to know it wasn’t them. Didn’t think they would be so reckless. Sad thing is that, with my cursed fingers, somehow the the speaker sounds worse than before after opening up.sigh.
