Genelec 8020a in 2026

Hi! Unfortunately I need to change my home monitors to something smaller. Currently im using APS Klasik mk1, which sound really good in this price range but due to changing space to smaller one I really need to downsize as the 7inch are simply to big. I've had a chance to listen to 8020d which would be perfect size for me, and they sounded pretty good (ofk the lows were not there as its simply impossible ) but now I have a chance to swap my APS 1/1 for the 8020A - unfortunately without a chance to try them. On paper when it comes to frequencies these seem to be almost identical, but I wonder if that's really the case and from the perspective of long term users - are they still up to date, or should be considered outdated?

i have the 8020b and they sound just like you would imagine them-- very clean and accurate. you can get a 7040 sub that our local rep told me will make that into all the system you need. that way you wouldn't be sacrificing lows.

others can probably say more in terms of design and features, but i am more than happy with my 8020b.

8020a is a 4" woofer. Klasik looks bigger. Genelec likely to be more linear and well directed which could be a clearer soundstage.

Yep the Klasiks are bigger - they are 7inch. On one hand its awesome and I know that 8020 would not go as low as them, but at the same time in small room they are simply to big - can use them like I want to What im mostly concerned is, whether its still reasonable to get so old Genelecs, or the changes with each iteration made them outdated

What kind of music? Subwoofer?

Mostly rock and somewhere in between - sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier, but in the biggest picture - allrounder. No sub
