I want to know your guys opinion on this. Right now i have a pair of genelec 8330A monitors with the GLM kit. I mostly listen to and produce/mix hip hop and other bass heavy genres. I want to expand the low end and was wondering if i should get the 8” 7350A or 10” 7360A. I am in a room that is 20ftX10ft with a 8.5 ft ceiling. It is also untreated at the moment. I would also like to add that the monitors are placed along the long wall as this is the only way i can fit my set up. Having my mixes translate well is important to me but, I am not a proffessional and I don’t make money off of it. that being said listening to music is also very important to me and the bass is my favorite element of a song. Do you think i should shell out the extra money for the bigger subwoofer or should I get the 7350A as a best of both worlds with mix translation and enjoyment. Thank you!

Depends on what else you need that $1k for!

Generally, I think the 7350 is a toy. I own one for a space that simply can't fit anything bigger (under a desk).

For Bass-heavy, go with something bigger.

if space isnt a constraint and you think you can calibrate things yourself, then you can go for dual rsl speedwoofer 12s, each sub is just as if not more potent than a single genelec 7070a

and unless you're listening really loud, i don't see how a single 7350 would be an issue. There will be nulls regardless, which only multiple subs or bass traps can help with.

whatever the case, as long as you're happy with a bass null here or there, you cant really go wrong with the 7350.

I would suggest that you treat the room first, it will make more of a difference in your mix translations than a sub woofy will - if you do it properly/methodically (measuring / REW) - and - you'll be in a much better place for when you add a sub (or two because you're on the long wall). I would also suggest to set up the sub so that you can easily turn it off, it makes for an efficient workflow.

Back to your sub choice - I personally was never crazy about the Genlec subs, you could do better for less/equal $ especially since your room isn't that big so you don't need projection. Look for a Neumann KH720 or a consumer Rhythmic, REL, SVS etc. they will move some air for playback and you'll get a better bang for your buck.

I have 8330A monitors, 7350A sub and GLM Kit. My room is larger, 24ft X 16ft with ceiling 8 inches lower than yours. Also placed along the long wall so I sit about 8ft from speakers. Strictly for music enjoyment. I'm totally amazed at how well the GLM system integrated the sub into the system. I've always enjoyed the extra bass from the sub, but I am not into heavy, loud bass as my ears are 76 years old and have been exposed to many LOUD live concerts in the long ago. I suggest you find a used 7350A sub so that you can recoup your cost if you decide to step up to the 7360A.

I actually have two 7350A subs, one sits idle as I don't feel it is needed in my room, with my listening habits. The two of them did give me the option of stronger, louder bass but that is not my preference. The GLM manual recommends reducing volume level of both subs after calibration to maintain correct frequency response. You might prefer two 7350A subs over one 7360A, especially if you have more than one listening seat in your room.

You do need to be careful that you do not mix with the sub(s) level boosted, as that will result in mixes that are weak in the bass. With the GLM Kit, you can easily switch between calibration files so you get preferred bass levels for mixing and for listening.

The 7360A would be limited by the speakers when paired with the 8330A, while the 7350A would be a perfect match. You should start with one 7350A and, if higher volume is needed, opt for the combination of 2x 8340A and 2x 7350A.

So, what did you choose?

Sorry for the late reply! I ended up going with the 7350A at first and it was great, however i was clipping pretty early on with the genres i listen to. On top of that, i felt that the bass at higher volumes was getting compressed. I ended up returning it and going with the 7360A and am a whole lot happier. Now that isn’t to say that the 7350A is bad by any means, its a great little sub. Im sure that two 7350A’s would work out well but, you would end up spending more than just buying one 7360A. It would also require a little bit more setup (which im sure isn’t a huge deal considering how good glm is).
