They cost the same in my country so it's a dilemma!
What is your opinion?

In Canada, 1237A is CDN$5800/ea and 8361A is CDN$5200/ea.

In other words, 1237A is 11.5% more expensive.

I do like the 'egg' shape better myself! :p
You Canadians get the best prices o_O
Do you have a website with all the prices? Thanks.

You said you have a 3x3m room, so how are you going to fit 1237A there and have a decend 2+ meter listening distance? What are you going to do with all the SPL capability? Not to mention 8361A will have more eq filters, easier/better resale value etc. It's a no-brainer if you are going to buy new.

-Sorted by Genelec, Priced High-Low.

Interestingly, they're exclusive reseller of the "Raw" finish.

My post also shows all Canadian resellers/dealers who sell Genelec.
Thanks
Do the prices include VAT, if i buy it as a tourist will it cost me less?
Thanks

Depends on goals. If you just want to use them as hi-fi in moderate size room, i'd prefer 8361 without doubt.
1237 is at least midfields (at Genelec site they are called main monitors) and somehow illustrated soffit mounted.
As an owner of classic arrangement 3-way midfields, I'd not recommend to buy something of this size unless you 100% sure that you have at least 2 m distance from them. They are kind of ... dominating, maybe. It's like sitting too close to big TV, if you need better comparison.

I need to be 100% sure I'm not making a mistake
For this you'd better to arrange some moneyback.
There's always some chance that you will not be happy with speakers in your system if they are totally new for you.
No measurements will give you 100% warranty that you'll be ok after few hours at decent SPL.

In a relatively small room like this, I'd honestly be wondering whether 8351Bs might not be getting the job done as well... they have noticeably better dispersion than the 8361As, too. They're still capable of ~110 dB SPL peak @ 1.5 m. As mentioned, 1237s seem way oversized, they're the kind of thing you'd see hanging ~3 m away in a fairly large control room. I'd be dithering between 8351 and 8361, depending on how much deep bass output you need.

If it is true that you have a 3x3 meter room, you can easily get away with a pair of 8341A. Yes, with a 4.

I listened to a pair of 8341A in my local dealer's 4x4 meter room and they got plenty loud enough, with pretty satisfying bass that would cover most musical content. In a room so small as 3x3m, you could even use the 8341A without a sub, depending on personal preference.

In a 3m x 3m room I personally wouldn't invest more than maybe a 8030C (and a sub ff needed) as you can't anyway have a much bigger stereo triangle than 1,5 meters with some decent reproduction quality, unless you plaster it with absorption material which would make the room even smaller...
Sorry, but this is the reality which I am facing even in my a bit larger hobby listening room, using larger loudspeakers with more SPL and deep bass brings rather more problems and unused potential, unless you plan to upgrade your room some day.

In how many threads do the same people have to write the same thing over and over again? In a room this small, none of those super-premium speakers you've been obsessing over for months will ever show even a fraction of their potential. Buy anything manageable from Genelec, then you'll see anyway that it doesn't work without subs and that you'll have to put at least the same money into the room again (without ever solving the problems completely - that's only possible with moving to a different room). But this has all been written several times, it's really getting tiring...

I must say that if the OP does ever buy anything, I fear we'll then be spammed with a whole lot of "should I have bought XX instead" threads.

I foresee that we will then see these threads in the headphone section.
