Any of you fine people have experience using the venerable/maligned Genelec 1030a/HT206b in non-monitoring or midfield capacity? I'm covered for monitors on the nearfield front, but a pair may be available to me and I'd be thinking of putting them to use in 10'x14' foot space (10' ceilings, hardwood floors, rugs throughout, some basic treatment) for general listening (flac, vinyl).

Have done what google-fu I can do but haven't found many speaking to this. Regarded by some on the production forums as too "glossy" for insightful monitoring– but thus perhaps right on the money for generally pleasurable listening? Interesting to see harmonic distortion at <3% at 60-150hz at 90db/1m. Maybe below audibility in part of that region (cue the masking, critical bands discussion) or maybe some turbulence here actually makes the 1030 an "easy listen" in some unforeseen ways? Hm.

The lesser-seen ht206, made from 2000-2015, is the 1030a as far I can deduce from the sheets– but pushed as a home theater satellite and with an added unbalanced input. Otherwise, same same.

Anyway, just fishing for experiences with either. Much gratitude in advance!

I'm using a pair of 1030a alongside a 7060 subwoofer as my primary home theatre setup. They are extraordinary! But of course as a former studio engineer I have a predisposition to everything Genelec. The only thing better than this combination would be a newer generation of gear also from Genelec. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a pair / use them for home audio / theatre use. Rgds... -J
