Seems to have moved on a bit since the email I got from google (unsolicited) a couple of hours ago ..

We’re contacting you because of a disruption affecting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. We apologise for the issue and understand your frustration. My CCA started to work again. Certificate is valid up to 2035, so I guess if Google servers are still around in the next 10 years we are safe :)

I'm still waiting for the update. I wonder how they are doing the staging, maybe by MAC address or serial number.

I have a gen 2 an no problems what so ever.
Could it be a location issiue.
 
I believe it wasn't a firmware update that caused this problem but a certificate problem which was fixed yesterday. Mine had the same issue
 
My CCA didnt work Thursday (visible to connect but wouldnt conect)- worked fine yesterday (friday 14th PM) - no notification about the fix, no visible update so my advice to everyone is plug them in, connect to wifi if you can and just test daily to see if working.

Not sure if you have changed routers/ wifi passwords etc how connectable they are if they have been in a drawer but maybe using the Home app on your phone and finding them will allow you to reconnect.

Any ones in live use should be updated now or soonish
 
Mine is fixed now, i did a factory reste before but I managed to fix it.
