From Reggae to Classical, the Musikelectronic Geithain RL901K (Pair) high headroom monitors are the absolute business. Come and listen to tight deep bass, incredible stereo imaging, zero distortion mids and beautiful, unaggressive, clear top end. The 901K is very room independent due to the lack...
I sometimes wonder since the for mid and high drivers there is no waveguide how this would effect directivity of those speakers...
Could score some 901 non K for cheap but since they are so fucking bulky I wonder if there is anything to them besides 16" bass
The ARD did replace their Klein & Hummel O300 (ancestor of the Neuman KH310) with the Geithan LR900 (ancestor of the LR901K) because their measurements and tests proofed it better...
Do you have a source for that? ARD and other German broadcasters are also notorious for overspending and funnelling money to the highest bidder (or friend of a friend) like the mafia
They were used from the mid 80's till certainly in the end 90 when i was in studio's of them in Koln to record a classical concert as assistant (a student job). Klein & Hummel and Geithan were the german monitors at that time. And if not, that story on their german website would have been debunked a long time. Both brands became big because of that. Klein & Hummel was sold to Senheiser who rebranded it to Neumann (also owned by them), Geithan stayed in the original families of the founders.
ARD and other German broadcast companies (and a lot of music studio's) bought from both brands monitors and used both (depending on the studio) as far as i know. They had tons of studio's in each part of Germany, runned by local organisations that toghetter made the ARD. This is not a company like the BBC that is organised top-down, but a cooperation of a lot of local gouverment controlled radio and tv stations, each with their own philosophy.
But in the studio's in Koln (Funkhouse Koln) they were still in use (and then 15 years old) in 1998 when i was there as assistant for the BRT (now VRT), the Belgian-Flemish broadcast company who recorded sometimes classical concerts there. And i've been in one of the studio's of the "Hauptstudio" in Berlin about 15 years ago and there they (don't know the model but big ones) were also still connected, but more as pa speakers for the public, not as monitors. That were at that time Klein & Hummel O500's I thought (at least in the studio where i went).
