Geithain RL 901K vs Neumann KH420

Little bit off topic, but September issue of German Stereoplay magazine includes a review and a few measurements of ME Geithan RL934K. 161 punkte, whatever that means in the context of Stereoplay's reviews. I did not include a screenshot, as I'm unsure is it OK here considering that I did not manage to find a link to that test?

maybe be you can translate it into English

Unfortunately I don't speak German. I can access the magazine through Pressreader with the help of my Helsinki region library card, but I don't understand what it says.
:D

Every time I read a Stereoplay (replace this with any consumer Hifi magazine) review, I realize how glad I am that ASR, Erin's Audio Corner and those professional magazines like Sound & Recording exist... Invaluable!

Edit: Have to also mention SPINorama as positive example

Strreoplay isn’t so bad. There are lots of magazines and sites like whathifi who don’t measure at all and are more like a commercial than a review.

No measurements at all mean a totally worthless review.

Insufficient measurements like in the stereoplay review are at least indicative for the performance. However, I would not base a purchasing decision on them.

The specific review quoted, e.g., shows a directivity issue around 4-10 kHz. Definitely does not look textbook-like.

I really do hope we can get third party measurements on the Geithainn.
Shouldn't be too hard actually, they're located only about a 75 minute drive from Klippel.

Still haven’t heard the Genelec 8381A ;-)
They're ... slightly more expensive.

Here's a size comparison between a few speakers: https://comparesizes.com/comparison...20-vs-Genelec-8361A-incl-IsoPod/1726070506768
The RL 901K are quite wide, but they need to be used in a large space anyway, so it hardly matters.
I see them listed for around 13000 to 15000€ per pair depending on finish and seller. That's pretty much the same as D&D 8C and about 3000 to 5000€ more than KH 420. Not unreasonable for what it is.

Inflation is a b@#$%*& the 8C used to cost 10k, just like the kii3, the KH420 was 7k.

The RL 901K have increased only about 2000€/pair (14%) over the last 18 years (2006 to 2024), all of that over the last four years.
That's actually considerably lower than inflation of 55% in Germany over that 18 year time frame and still only about half the inflation rate over the last four years (26%).
That has to be taken with a grain of salt as they are not permanently listed and I assume dealer discounts play a large role in the price one actually ended up paying.

For me the geithain had less distortion, better phase coherence and better dispersion characteristics than 420.

better low end than 8361.
8361 would of been my second choice.
Cardioid bass and 16” woofer being the key deciding factor
Can the 8351/8361 +subs match the Geithains?

Can the 8351/8361 +subs match the Geithains?
I have heard on here genelec makes a sub with controlled dispersion characteristics, so i do think 83xx +subs would be a really great option/compare well to geithain.
If not geithain, i would save some more $$ and most likely go this combo. The point source on the genelec has really great detail, maybe the genelec was just a touch brighter. I felt psi was really close to the genelec and geithain imaging, probably something to do with phase alignment.
But in both cases (psi & genelec) i felt i couldn't go without subs. That’s why i ultimately decided geithain.
