This is day 2 of testing the Fyne Audio F502S and I discovered this button on the lower back side:
It was on +. I changed it to 0 and suddenly they sounded much more neutral/transparent. I couldn't find much information from Fyne Audio about this except for this in the little paper included with the speakers.
I must say, this was a bit of a surprise. I had to try to find out if my ears, or brain, are deceiving me. I fired up the AudioTools app with FFT-analyzer and Reference Curve on my iPhone and loaded the Harman Target file. This target curve is supposed to represent the ideal in-room frequency response of a well-designed loudspeaker. I set the range to +/- 3 dB and started playing some pink noise in mono.
This is my initial results from using the limited internal iPhone microphone. This is measured from my coach approx. 3 meters from the speakers. I will test again when I get a better calibrated external mic. The speakers are HPF at 60 Hz and the subwoofer is not dialed in correctly yet.
I not sure if I did everything correct. They are not perfectly within the range of +/- 3 dB but they do sound quite neutral to my ears at least. That's the way I like it and I haven't EQ-ed anything yet.
In other words, in the manual that doubtless said Please Read Carefully! (I know they usually have several pages telling you not to use them in the shower, and not to clean them with petrol, and other blindingly obvious things.)
When I could hear that high, 3dB would have made quite a difference. I’m surprised more speakers don’t have that flexibility, although I realise many of us have access to quite low cost digital EQ these days.
My BS meter is going crazy. Why isn't this pure snake oil? If you have a legitimate engineering back round and make the claim it's not snake oil? Seems worse because you are using credentials to substantiate false and or unproven claims. Seems like a bad joke. Am I wrong?

Why does the text state that the effect is limited to between 2.5 and 5kHz and the diagram shows it all the way up to 20kHz? Are they trying to set off my cognitive dissonance again?!

Agree. There is a lot of humbug here. The easiest way to describe the speakers now is that they are pretty neutral or transparent with the setting in 0. Point source driver has a clear distortion-free and direct midrange. Bass is pronounced and impactful down to 40 Hz. Treble clear but not sibilant and in my impression doesn’t seem to go up to the highest frequencies. Hopefully that’s an okay description without to much audiophile poetry.
The diagram in the manual for the F502S, which has a one-button Presence adjustment, seems to be a combination of the two buttons for HF Energy and Presence adjustments seen on their higher-end models. I still don't understand the logic or technology behind this.
