OK, so I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that I found a trove of funny-to-me, old-ish American road signs.
The bad news is that I feel compelled to share the backstory.
It's actually not too bad! There's an interesting sidebar conversation on the humor thread about highway signage of the kind that's meant to be read
on the fly (you know... AHEAD MERGE...) as painted on the roadway. This reminded me of an Ogden Nash poem, which sent me looking for an example of a certain kind of sign.

I am delighted to note that many of these are from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (our long-time,
albeit erstwhile, home). I am convinced that, to this day, the road signage in "The Bay State" was and remains
carefully crafted to confound Redcoats in case they decide to try again to avert the Minutemen!
PS I only wish that last example I posted said SLOW HUMPS AHEAD -- in which case I would have
gleefully invoked Foghat's timeless hit song,
Slow Ride.
