Oh, I have one other funny sign to share, come to think of it.
I have shared this before, too, in the humor thread, but this one is in the family and is very near and dear to my heart.

We live in northern New Hampshire -- in a region known as The [Connecticut River] Upper Valley, although it is thus monikered for no particularly good reason* -- because my late in-laws lived here. We didn't follow them here per se, but rather because I fell in love with this area the first time I visited them, ca. 1982.
They lived on Columbus Jordan Road. Well... just off of Columbus Jordan Road. Their driveway met the road at an angle, akin to a fork in the road. Such road features, typically unmarked, are a staple part of navigation in New England.

I guess it was abstruse enough to prompt their neighbor to make a sign for them, recorded for posterity in a book.





Here's a photo I took of the sign in the winter of 1982.


As an aside, until a few years ago all of the street signs in our little town looked like those above... stained softwood boards with the road name routed in and painted white. Now we have soulless, reflective metal street signs just like everybody else.

hmm... 40 miles... if you are on the NH side of the river, and if find yourself in, or near, Charleston, NH, and have a moment & the inclination for such things... stop by the Ice Cream Machine (on NH Rt 12).

In 2023, we decided to celebrate our second second honeymoon the same place (generally speaking) where we went for our second honeymoon in 2008 -- the New York state "Finger Lakes" region. Mrs. H and I are both oenophiles (well, at least, we used to be) and she's an extremely avid birder (Cornell University's ornithology dept's HQ and environs, "Sapsucker Woods", is, as I like to say, Mecca for birders), so it's a pretty safe choice for a win-win vacation.

One of the wineries we visited both times is a small but more than decent one called Knapp Vineyards.
They're quite proud of their own on-site lake.
