I’m into library music and here’s on old cut from a well-known library, music composer, Brian Bennett. This album was a cult, classic and much sought after until it was released and also became available digitally. It’s a nice laid-back spacey groove:

Good call… more light disco than funk. The laid back groove was famously inspired by George McRae Rock Your Baby.

I’m a huge fan of ABBA and if you’re going to go there, I would suggest a very early deep cut from ABBA, My Mamma Said.

It’s a wonderful combination of laid-back R&B groove processed through an icy Scandinavian reserve and coolness.
For me, it has endless replay value (great little guitar solo two), and I think it still sounds amazingly contemporary. I could see an Indie R&B artist putting this out today. Check out the funky bass playing, and the funky guitar solo (somebody edited a weird ABBA video to it):

Also going to throw in this from ABBA. This is from there more disco-oriented Voulez-Vous. But it does have one of the more slinky R&B grooves.

And Agnetha Faltskog is always easy on the eyes (my 70s singer crush)

I’d add ABBA’s The Name of The Game to the list—it fits what you were saying. Classic ABBA pop sound; those signature lovely harmonies and so on plus some laid-back, smooth funk. It’s not funk all the way through, just here and there. A pop song sprinkled with funk, so to speak.

(Okay, I admit there wasn't that much funk in that song, but still.)
