Funky groovy music

Something old (featuring my favorite funky solo, by brother of Bootsy, Phelps Collins, starting at 4:00):

Something new (featuring ridiculous bass phenom Vincen Garcia)

This is not a funk song at all, but given the talk of James Brown (and/or George Clinton) being gods/godfathers of funk, there's a very fascinating video that takes this concept somewhat literally... if you've never sat down and watched this video straight through, it's really something. (the hell gym sequence alone is worth a look...?) One of the most self-indulgent pieces of media ever published, but it also depicts James Brown (yes, really him) as something of a demi-god, specifically of funk.

This might be a rather unpopular opinion, but I believe Casiopea is probably the best fusion-jazz band ever. This is probably their most "funky" song.
Casiopea is great but I agree "best ever" is a big statement when you have the likes of Ronnie Laws and Azimuth out there... not a crazy statement, but a big one. Even though we have a funk thread and jazz thread, a fusion thread wouldn't be totally redundant...

Cymande - Brothers on the slide
A band that should be in every audiophile's library.
Easily one of the more underrated bands in this genre. Another good one from these guys. They were supposed to play in SF last year (IIRC) but cancelled due to illness. Up there with Afrika Bambaataa cancelling for the same reason in "shows I regret missing".

Parcels - Overnight (this track is ''shadow'' produced by Daft Punk)

One of my favourite bands, inspired by many groups I like like Steely Dan and Earth Wind & Fire, their sound is excellent.
I'll stop here or I'll flood this thread.
Plays like a bonus track from Random Access Memories, total crisp & glossy sound quality included, nice.

Aside from that, just wanted to drop this one before logging out for the day:

BB&Q Band - On the Beat (It's really got at least one foot firmly planted in disco, but it makes a play for funk, soul, and R&B at the same time.)
Another one from them that The Avalanches dropped in a mix way back. Quite a vibe.

Rare slow beat Grooves i compiled years ago. I made about 10 of them. Sort of beat-Tape tracks. Most have a tracklist.

Don't forget our man Chick and John Patitucci, the idea of playing this song live gives me a panic attack haha. With Casiopea I feel like they represent a really good entry point into fusion, though they're stuff may not be as heavily technical as a lot of other bands, they come up with fantastic melodies that most people who prefer more pop style music I feel would enjoy. I think you're right though, perhaps saying they're my favorite would have been more appropriate lol. Though I will say Casiopea definitely lean more into the funk style of fusion from what I've heard. Especially on a track like this!

Released last year, it's a kind of downtempo soft funk with soul chorus, nothing to show off, just good tasty stuff to chill on. We also get good stuff these days.

Patchwork inc. - Last Forever

While we're posting tight slap basslines let's just get this one on the board:

And if the song sounds kind of familiar despite not having heard it before... Must have been swamp gas or something.

Really cool stuff, listening now.
Thanx. This music must resonate with you must be your cup of thee. There are about 9 more with the same image. Other stuf (few hunderd sets) is more deep house dub, techno sometimes close to Underground which mostly is not recognised by algo's i guess because of small (obscure  ) privat labels limited (vinyl) editions. But always with 70 80tie undertones. Enclosed such set, around minute 8:20 i mix in a Doors edit Riders on the Storm i love those Grooving interpretations Enjoy https://www.mixcloud.com/Snarf/effertless-downbeat-vibes/

I don't know how it hasn't been posted yet. Maybe cos it's not funk, just funky. That guitar though.

The Isley Brothers - Footsteps in the Dark

No objection! it's Friday, a good day indeed. ;)

I would also add this one: Isley Brother - That Lady Parts 1 & 2

And the Basement Jaxx liberal appropriation of the guitar solo:

Jus 1 Kiss - Isley Bootleg Edit
