I wonder if Donald Fagen would have been just as pissed off if someone had called Steely Dan’s music Yacht Funk as he was when he was interviewed and asked what he thought of the label "Yacht Rock"?

Never mind—call it Yacht Funk or not. It doesn't matter.

From the time when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were truly hot, and not the watered-down chili they later became.

Damn, I listened to the whole Red Hot Chili Peppers Mother's Milk album yesterday. It’s been a few years since I last did that. It holds up—it’s solid.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers at their best—peak performance. The Mother's Milk album is truly wild: funky, rocky, and punky all rolled into one. Highly recommended.

There are funk elements in some of the songs—for instance, in the track A Plea (music video below). Otherwise, the album consists mostly of great jazz.

Aye, nice one. Really like this album. He seems like such a great guy too. Kinda touching, his emotional response in the recent documentary about Hillel Slovak. (The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel. On Netflix)
