It’s strange—I don’t see a thread about funk music? So why not start one?

Feel free to share what you like—artists, albums, and/or songs. Whether it’s "pure" funk à la James Brown or funk-inspired tracks with a great groov, like "Roundabout" by Yes, for example, old or new music—please feel free to share your recommendations.

@DanielT FUNKY RADIO (funky.radio) is my favorite radio station because it plays only funk classics (from 1963 to 1982) with no commercial breaks.

They also have a second channel whose name clearly describes what it plays: “70s 80s disco funk, modern soul, boogie”

This might be a rather unpopular opinion, but I believe Casiopea is probably the best fusion-jazz band ever. This is probably their most "funky" song.

This might be a rather unpopular opinion, but I believe Casiopea is probably the best fusion-jazz band ever. This is probably their most "funky" song.

I think you’ll like this one, given what you recommended—jazz sprinkled with funk, that is. A hell of a tight band with superb arrangements by Quincy Jones. Funky bass and purdie shuffle drums combined with big-band swing. One of my favorites when it comes to big-band jazz:

(The beginning of the song gives off funk vibes; the rest is top-notch, traditional swinging big band jazz.)
