Fun with vinyl measurements

@narud What temperature and humidity are 'regular' and 'warm/humid'? It's interesting that the frequency doesn't change much, just the size of the peak, suggesting it's the damping that's changed rather than the stiffness.

unfortunately, ive never thought to take the temp inside my house. i asked my wife what her guess was with regard to how much hotter the inside of our house was than usual and she guessed 12 degrees. i was thinking 15. i checked the forecast and todays weather is 83 degrees and 74% humidity. it usually tops out at around 70 here. i end up sticky and dank just sitting in my house which is unusual for this area.

heres a 2nd copy of the 45xml that just showed up yesterday. first measurement is after it had been installed and on the arm for a couple of hours during the peak hotness of my house. the second measurement is this morning before it has had a chance to get hot in here.

my 40ml styli, vm95ml styli and vn5mr's all dont show this behavior. those are all in regular rotation on the 4 tables i have set up.

I hope you can get hold of a thermometer some day!

By belt drive performance had very good w&F this summer with 28C indoors, better than at normal temperature at 23C

This looks like an Ortofon cartridge, less than a typical AT, maybe AT got som of Ortofons elastomers

There is certainly an interesting variation of HF responses in the posted Vmx745ML measurements, with similar load capacitances.

I just picked up an Ortofon Music Bronze, out of curiosity.

It’s hard to understand how a cartridge in this price range could get through quality control like this.

With an extra 20 seconds of care, couldn't the cantilever have been rotated properly?

yeas I read other places that QA in Ortofon has suffered... but they are maybe not alone.. I hav seen crap alignment from AT too on a 91R for 30 bucks

Pardon for misinformation. Price was for 2M bronze, not music bronze.
But still music bronze is more or less in same price range.

Got the 45 RPM Denon test record a few days ago. Testing the 3000 Hz W&F track. No clamps or record weights, record centering was adjusted coarsely by eye (not by USB microscope).

Att 33 RPM:

It does not better my Tacet copy, remeasured today. As seen the centering done by eye is not perfect.

And the Denon record at 45 RPM:

Amazed that Ortofon could let something like this through, I have to say, especially at the price!

Nice pickup though with a properly aligned stylus The new Concorde Bronze should be similar with luck (will the OM30 stylus be replaced with it I wonder?)

I center by measurements using NAK T-100 which shows me instant W&F , an then adjust “around the clock” to find optimum

Yes. I may redo this with microsope but the Denon appears noisy. Don’t know why it is so hard to make test records when music works fine. I’ll clean it and return if it gets better. This was a mint sealed copy BTW.

You may be surprised, but I experienced similar defect in $2000 worth cartridge. Distributer, who I contacted said that this is within expected tolerance. In the end I had to tilt cartridge to get same crosstalk on both channels. Crosstalk is very sensitive to azymith alignment - 1 degree of error causes few dB imbalance.
