Shimming to reduce VTA from 28 to 22 degree

""Am33v2 records""’ ???

Analogue Magic. Not sure what all stuff means. I’ve never seen any spec on actual VMA usee for any test record other than according to IEC etc.

Ah ok...
(Analog Magic... for me, juste Virtins Pro ... and their test discs, which, on the other hand, reflect their biases/creations.... ;-) )

AnalogMagik Version 2 33 rpm record. The point is the relative change in intermodulation and crosstalk when VTA change . A typical 2-4mm change in Arm base height is too small to be differentiated. I plan to ask AMagik what VMA is used..

Where does one even get angled vta shims? Seems like a very simple product to make, yet I have only been able to find a 3d printed one without holes..

Pats audioparts , makes a shim intended for Thorsens or was it Dual? , anyway it works.here I added a plastic strip as a fulcrum/azimuth adjustment. On eBay Stanley-engineering sells wood housing that can allow body tilting

I use strips cut from playing cards. 1, 2 or 3 for varying shims.

It seems like a mechanism similar to laser cutter mirror adjustment might be handy...

Planning for a VTA/SRA experiment vs crosstalk/distortion with my Shure V15V and JICO SAS/B with shims and want some input on tracks to use. Planning to use no shim, + 1-3 shims which means 4 data points. It would probably cover between 20-30 degree static visual VTA range (dynamic VTA would be 1-2 degree lower). I do not have a VTA vertical IMD track though since those records are very rare. VTA/SRA will be meausred visually (eg static) which means there will be errors, but the purpose is to see if there is a trend.

I was thinking the following

For crosstalk:
1 kHz signal L/R from Ortofon and/or Flukason test record
1 kHz signal L/R from CA-TRS1007
1 kHz signal L/R from AP test record
Azimuth signal from Merolemez test

For distortion
1 kHz mono signal lateral from AP test record
1 kHz mono signal vertical from AP test record
1 kHz mono signal lateral from CA-TRS1007
1 kHz mono signal vertical from CA-TRS1007

For frequency reponse and further crosstalk:
Ortofon/Fluksason test record sweep
CA-TRS1007 sweep

Very interesting! Since AnalogMagik stereo IMD VTA tracks show an effect of VTA , the VTA IMD tracks on TACET and AP Ultimate test record may work too for such large VTA change, you may use my script posted here for IMD analysis’, or REW if carefully tuned

I was thinking of running the VTA tracks but since they are lateral there is no logic running them. A vertical 1 kHz track makes more sense distortion-wise. Have you tested those (eg 1 kHz vertixal on AP)?

Since this experiment will take significant effort in re-aligning the cartridge after each shim it will take some time to do. Hoping for some time after Christmas.

Just a short re: Tacet "VTA IMD" test.

That's why I was thinking an adjustment mechanism similar to the laser mirror adjusters would be good - align once then one screw each to adjust orthogonal axes. Something for the future maybe...

Should be something for a separate headshell.
