On the basis that it's best to use what you already have... Once upon a time, my parents gave me their old Panasonic five disc DVD player, which came with five satellite speakers and a sub woofer, all passive. The DVD player is long gone, but we've still been using the speakers in a 2.1 setup with a Cambridge Audio Azur 340R for front and a Lepy for the sub. The Azur 340R recently died though, so I'm looking for something that can take an optical input and amplify both the left and right front speakers and the sub. Needs to be budget, for reasons that will become clear in another thread.

So far, I've seen both the SMSL A50 Pro and the Fosi Audio HT4S, which are about as much as I want to spend. Just need something so I don't have to listen to the awful speakers inside the telly box. Neither of these get glowing reviews in their respective threads though - A50 Pro and HT4S.

So I'm after recommendations for how to get an optical out from our old LG telly, and power two front speakers and a passive sub.

The speakers are:
  • Panasonic SB-AFC80: Impedance: 6 Ω / Power: 60W (music), 30W (DIN)
  • Panasonic SB-W80A: Impedance: 6 Ω / Power: 180W (music), 90W (DIN)
