Wow, what a journey so far. Having had a nightmare with the Dayton Audio DSP unit and the mix of balanced / unbalanced connections, I now have a new kit list. Ultimately, I have moved on to a fully balanced setup with a more sophisticated pro dsp/crossover unit. In addition, I have switched over to a set of new Fane “full range” 12” woofer drivers.
I will be firing up the system tomorrow to get some sound out of it. Basic crossover settings have been applied. At this point I have not played with the input Dynamic EQ’s or the output PEQ’s but I did want to double check my thinking when it comes to gain settings.
Driver specs are:
Fane 12” woofer drivers - 100db 1w/1m
Faital Pro midrange driver - 109db 1w/1m
Visaton Tweeter driver - 100db 1w/1m
I source volume control on an Eversolo streamer / pre-amp, this can be via the twisty nob on the front of the unit or via the iPhone app.
Within the DSP / Crossover I have 3 levels of gain to play with:
Input Gain (each channel)

Output Gain (each channel)

And, what I assume is Master Gain

When first firing up the system today I was thinking of using the following gain / volume settings:
Source / Pre-amp volume at 50% (maximum flexibility)
Both Channels Input gain at 0db
Woofer Output Gain - 0db
Midrange Output Gain - -12db
Tweeter Output Gain - 0db
This is purely based on the published specs at 1w/1m.
I was then going to start with the master gain / volume at -40db, play a tone via REW, say 4khz (each of the drivers can easily play this) and slowly increase the master gain/volume until I get a fair signal volume and then tweak it by ear before I start doing anything else.
Does this sound like a sensible plan?
Anything else I should do / consider or change?
Thanks.
