Fosi's New Linear Power Supply

No they are improving the bottom line, just go and read the various Fosi forums and FB page. It’s full of people gagging for any little tweak.
What is the definition of “bottom line”? How does one measure this?

Sounds awfully similar to "black background" if you ask me.

Petition: let's use "black" as the German hifi press likes to do. There it means deep, clean bass. The "blacker", the better, and the highest honour for a speaker is to be described as having "raven black bass". It's flowery language alright, but makes a little sense at least. :D

RME did it too:
But they won’t claim any audible differences and offer this product as a solution to a very niche problem in the pro audio world. But still, it’s an overpriced product.

And yes, there is a topic about it:

No Talema or even-even a mere Toroidy trafo inside :p

Pfff...

(and a fan? Seriously??? )

Oooh. Nippon Chemi-Con caps. Those sound the best, or so I hear.

The other day I saw another power supply with even more appealing caps:

The VPS-6's dual-isolation power supply guarantees that each output is independent and crystal clear. With seven isolated outputs utilizing solid-state capacitors and common-mode inductance filtering, you'll experience outstanding noise reduction—leaving you with nothing but the sound of your playing.

Perhaps they consider electrolytics to not be solid state. Idk.

Please post them all so we can ridicule those brands as well.
Sorry. I lied... there are no others.

I'm reminded of a great quote I read lately that may apply to little Fosi listening to their clients and making a diverse set of products for a matrix of customer use cases.
"I get the most enjoyment out of seeing an underdog succeed, because you can really sense their passion and joy" RB

...signed ... an Underdog

They developed this Linear PSU with online input from users for a year or so including design and performnace features that came to fruition. I think thats a win
It will clean up some wall warts and external power bricks I have. I think thats a win
It looks great in a Fosi stack with my similar gear. I think thats a win.
It will produce no worse sound (TBD) and maybe better for those with special magic ears and gear. I think thats a win.
It costs less than my dinner out for two at a good restuarant on the weekend. I think that's a win.

Some should just be happier for new product options. Recall you have the option to buy or not.
As for marketing, I can point to many major brands (within and beyond electronics) that also rave yet no one shoots darts at them. Marketing is what it is in a competitive world.
chill folks.... have a cigar ...

(I'll report back on the sound in 10-14 days)

Make mine a beer...

Rather than be perturbed, I am grateful the Fosi Audio PSU20 Linear Power Supply is an option I do not need. :)

I know, right? If I start to consider and get a quantitative feel for all the consumer stuff I do not need I get a similar vertigo to when I consider the Hubble and Webb Deep Field images.

ChatGPT :)

  • Blacker background = audiophile terminology meaning the music emerges from a quieter electrical background. In theory, this can make quiet details easier to hear because there’s less low-level hiss or interference.
Did ChatGPT provide a reference discussing the Blacker Background Theory? I'd love to read it -- 'specially in the peer-reviewed literature!

How can a product that hasn’t hit the market yet have any effect on the bottom line of a company?
I know you are being obtuse on purpose, or at least I sincerely hope so. ;)
Ah, you mean that bottom line. I supposed some sort of vague audiophile hand wavy improvement  :p

So again - when the test of a FOSI device shows inaudible noise with the stock power supply - what do you expect to get from a test with this PSU?
Well, heck -- everybody knows that inaudible ultrasonic noise provides, at best, a drab pastel black background, rather than the purity of primary black.
So, the opportunity here is to see whether inaudible 60 Hz noise gets us closer to that Aristotelian ideal of a primary black background.
Now, the poor folks afflicted with 50 Hz mains will just have to keep dreaming... maybe they can lobby with their local governments to change their mains frequency.

;)

ooh, ooooh!
Best linear power supply graphic, ever:

I'd get one just to see the blue flames!
