Ok upgrading the thermal paste makes a lot of sense to me. I'm sure there's pictures in the thread somewhere and I forgot about doing it. There's a pathetic amount on it from the factory. Wipes off with an alcohol wipe.

You want the minimum amount of paste that fills any gaps, replacing air space - no more. If it looks a pathetic amount it is probably about right.

The thicker it is, the higher its thermal resistance.

Think about this - look at all commercial amps - can you find one that actually produces a design that actively and successfully dissipates heat - why not - simple it's not in the interests of profits to produce amps that require no replacement parts for maybe 10-15 years or more. Built in obsolescence has been a fact of commercial life for decades in virtually every industry you can think of. In the UK there was a company that made commercial lawn mowers. Their Dennis cylinder mower went on and on and on. They also made fire engines, don't know if they are still around.

Who in audio hasn't spent loads of money 'upgrading'. Imagine just buying (1) amp, (1) one pair of speakers and so on. Big business doesn't want you to develop this kind of mentality. I bought a Kenwood KD d/d deck years ago. It's specs and actual performance beats that of stupidly expensive bling decks today. Heybrook Sextet speakers, I now use with exterior mounted x/over networks. These should always have been mounted externally but this would have made transportation and boxing very difficult. Open baffle speakers when designed properly will always out perform boxed ones - no sound pressure problems no massive air vibrations especially from bass and mid units. Think on.

I find all of this heat dissipation crazy. I've had mine on 24/7 since the Kickstarter units shipped. Are they warm? Yes. Have they failed? No.

I bought 3 at Kickstart and had 3 failure. 1 of my 3 is the original Kickstarter unit. I will say this, with the exception of a useless request for a video proving they dont work(lol), they replaced them and took care of me.

I haven't followed the fosi reliability. I went through the topping PA2 debacle though. This is how mine sit. Alone and open. They drive super high efficiency compression horn based speakers.

Somewhat similar for me. They sit on top of the center channel below the TV.
