Fosi v3 Mono - User Impressions | Owner's Thread

If I understand correctly, that is not a power supply. Just a different filter that fits between the 'generic power block' and amp.

It just happens that this on has two outputs, so that a splitter cable isn't needed.
Yeah, I realized that too so it would be pointless for me to get if I have no noise issues other than it looks better.

I would be highly interested in that splitter, since the original one with one outlet and the SHORT y cable is not very convenient for positioning the amps.

Or where can I get a longer y cable, meaning the two separate ends need to be longer.

Thanks

Some longer and higher quality cables would also be sufficient. Any idea where to purchase them?

Owis, that option on the Fosi page seems select either a single or split output cable, but as far as I can tell the filter itself is still the older single output filter regardless of which cable you select.

Hi,
I have not followed the posts about filters and splitter cables, because I bought 2 x 10A psus when got my 2 x V3 Monos.
However, if one of the psus failed would this filter with the 1 in-2 out cable option let me safely power both V3s from the single 10a psu?
Thanks

FWIW, I've got 3 of the V3 monos - one is a spare. Went with separate power supplies for each, just on general principles.

They run a bit warm but the sound is punchier and tighter than my original V3 stereo amp. Really like the sound overall, am feeding a pair of Infinity IL10's with it and they're tight, controlled, and very lively. Will probably upgrade caps and resistors in the crossovers in the speakers one of these days. Mogami wire with amphenol RCA's for interconnects. Upgraded from Micca 14ga speaker wire to World's Best Cable 8ga biwire, very noticeable difference in the top end. Micca is smoother but distant, WBC has more presence, in your face in a way that the Micca isn't. Anyway, the Fosi V3 monos are really working out well and I'm very happy with mine.

Used one of the V3 stereo amps for about a year and the upgrade was worth it in my opinion. Just a pity that there probably won't be another rung on the upgrade ladder for me.

PS With active cooling I'm keeping my V3 monos down to about 27C, but if stacked w/out cooling temp on the bottom runs about 43C. I don't stack 'em and do cool 'em, one 80mm fan on each running on lowest speed - the fans are inaudible even with no music at all.
PPS Should have pointed out the biggest "soft" issue with the amps - those 8ga biwire cables are heavy and I have to be careful with the setup to make sure its all stable - the cables weigh as much as the amps.

Yep exactly, it's just a larger version of the original DC filter with 2 outputs.

Yes, it would.

43c is nothing for a digital amp. These actually run pretty cool compared to many others. No active cooling or heatsinks are needed

Agreed, just with all the worries about overheating expressed in some places I figured I would put some actual numbers on it. OTOH active cooling may extend life on the capacitors however and since I had a couple 80mm fans lying around, why not use 'em.

Best,
Morse

I received the V3’s yesterday and have been very impressed. My only issue is the pop sound made when turning off that was discussed earlier in the thread. I have been using a power strip to turn them off and wonder if that’s the problem and if I should just be using the switch on the amps. I’m going to try that and also try using the balanced inputs and separate ps’s for each amp.

Anybody else figure out a solution?

I have already mentioned it before, and I have found this pretty scary a few times quite loud enough and I had to simply remove it from my chain.
I hope yours's are recently made ones, and kind of disappointing that they haven't resolved this basic thing even after so long time.

I agree. For the moment I'm using my ZA3's but will try the V3's later today with separate PS's. I'm hoping that perhaps by turning them off separately, and waiting a moment or two between shutting each one down it will cure the problem.

I just received mine a couple days ago so I assume they are recently made, but is there a way to confirm that?

ON/OFF operation is so frequent that a specific order for this becomes a pain in the neck so soon, no go for me at least.

Don't know but there could be MFD date or something on the box, just guessing!
But if you want to be double sure then probably email Fosi asking this.
