Does anybody have channel separation numbers for two units driven off the shared supply vs two dedicated single supplies? I'm really curious to see that impact!

I'm not expert but I would really be surprised to see any difference.

Just wanted to give folks a heads up that after one of my pair of V3 monoblocks died after 10 months of very limited operation, I'm still waiting for a replacement months later. I bought direct from Fosi and it was a miracle I got my first shipment from them, as they are utterly unable to inform me (even roughly) of when delivery would be and a neighbor happened to grab my package while I was traveling. The first replacement shipment was supposedly delivered to the entirely wrong address.

Fosi uses cut-rate international and last-mile delivery companies (YunExpress followed by GoFoExpress, in my case) and has no actual ability to get them to deliver correctly. If you insist on buying Fosi gear and live in the US, it might be best to use Amazon so you have some chance of having a workable return\replacement shipping success.

Happy with my v3 monos and very happy with fosi customer service. I purchased the pack on amazon (1 psu 48v/10A with filter) and I could hear a buzzing noise in a speaker when I turned on one block. I've contacted fosi on their website. They asked me to run some tests and they send me another filter. Since, no problem at all.
They were quick to answer and friendly.

For info, I bought the fan from fosi audio and placed it between the 2 blocks. The fan runs in silence and the 2 blocks are still cold after hours of using.

So we should be using the XLR input instead of the RCA because of better SINAD.

Will the SINAD benefits of using the Amps XLR input be the same if my dac output is RCA, and I’m using a RCA>XLR cable?

I would have to spend a fair bit extra to get a balanced output dac, which I don’t think I need since I have short runs and no interference issues.

No, you won't get the XLR benefits if you are just using a converter cable. You are I think likely to run into issues with loss of gain so, much as I like XLR, my suggestion is that you stay with RCA until you move to a true XLR source.

Why doesn’t it have volume knobs? I didn’t realize until after ordering, that I will need to get a pre amp capable dac (TOPPING D50 III).

Since the dac in WiiM mini is not good, and the RCA input in the fosi v3 doesn’t have good SINAD, I can’t just use the WiiM mini as an all in one.

Lastly, you can’t control the TOPPING D50 III via an app, so I have to use some crappy remote to change the volume.

And I can’t connect my subwoofer to the TOPPING D50 III or Fosi v3..

I didn’t know how good I had it with my all in one denon avr 3500… which was like $500 and is still going strong 8 years later.

Sub out, full control heos/denon wifi app, direct connected usb storage lossless playback (will miss this the most), dsp, multi zone, Airplay 2.

Single component systems feel like a big step back in actual convenience features, this “superior” sound better be audible. Rant over.

You make some good points! indeed, some of what we think is worth chasing maybe isn't when it comes to the final sound getting to our ear-brains.

Probably best be prepared to be underwhelmed. but hopefully you'll be pleased with the outcome. (but your mind probably won't be blown). eq and tuning/setup (and good speakers) seems to be the bigger-ticket items to get actual result.

Even tho the wiim mini isn't technically brilliant, it's probably good enough for our actual threshold of perception, once music is playing.

Incidentally, I had a fairly subtle symptom in my room/setup.
I learned a thing from Anthony Grimani - a pretty great technique that made pretty much all the difference... hadn't heard of it elsewhere.
I think it's well worth a look...

Here's a post with a timestamped video link where a few mins in he talks about it...

This is a mono power amp. How practical is it to have a volume knob? You want to walk over, turn the knob of left channel amp, then turn the knob of right channel amp? How well channel balancing do you think that will get you?

I use this to convert rca to xlr. Works great & is inexpensive. ART CLEANBox Pro Dual Channel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003S7T49K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Not the nicest solution, as most of these boxes.
Have a look:

In general, it's WAY better to use what is there, RCA>RCA, XLR>XLR, etc.

Exactly - I was surprised by the question - not least because - how much research was done pre-purchase to be annoyed that a mono amp didn't have volume control.

"so I have to use some crappy remote to change the volume"
Let's think. You could use the volume control in whatever app you are using to play your music. You could use the volume control on the Wiim Mini. You could use the Wiim home app. You could use the front panel volume control on the DAC. How many alternatives do you want?

You are right though, component systems are a generally a big step back in convenience *unless* you carefully choose your components to have the type of controls, ergonomics and integration that you want. For many of us that is a lesser priority so we put up with some inconvenience in exchange for other preferences in our choices. Separates are not the best choice for all/most folks and something like a Wiim Amp Ultra can be an attractive modern option that takes away the complexity of fitting together different bits of kit into a well performing and unified system.

If I run my mini to the dac, I can still change the volume on the mini app? I assumed the dac would be taking over volume control and treating the mini as a fixed signal.

My bad, I’m still new to this all and it’s been a few days of non stop research and some basic things I have overlooked in the confusion.

We've all done it (well, I have!)

Sorry - my post was unpleasnt. It is too easy to forget we are all at different stages of knowledge, and I have also made some howlers.

Sure. A correctly wired (not all are) converter cable will work fine, but you are generally better off going XLR->XLR or RCA->RCA and the only real use case is when one of your bits of kit can only do RCA and the other can only do XLR.
Yes but & lot of preamps or AVR's don't have xlr out, although we are seeing more low cost brands like Fosi & Aiyama have them. The good thing about the CleanBox is you can also adjust the voltaage. This was helpful in my case where my Yamaha RX-A4A preout RCA voltage is low.
