I've seen these on youtube etc in the last couple of days. It's a portable DAC/headphone amp that is magnetic and sticks to your mobile phone (or anything else magnetic)

ESS chipset, it has a circular screen. Lacking (P)EQ.

Not sure I'm overly enthusiastic about a magnet next to my phone but I guess it's safe enough or they wouldn't do it?

It's on kickstarter just now: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...e-dac-amp-dongle-with-rear-display?ref=26qn60

This almost certainly uses the QI2 magnet configuration, which only works with phones that have the matching QI2 magnets embedded into their back panels (e.g. iPhones with MagSafe, Google Pixel 10 series).

Those phones were specifically designed to have magnetic accessories stuck onto them, so no issues there.

This would also mean though that the MD3 can only be stuck onto those select phones, and likely won't stick onto other phones or just any random ferromagnetic surface, as the QI2 magnets inside the accessory are usually too weak to hold the accessory's weight on their own. They need the matching pair inside your phone to work.

I’ve thought about buying one from their kickstarter page as I really like the design and the screen is k8nda cool but rationality kicks in and I decide I’d never actually use it as my jm20 or my Hiby d1 dongles do me just fine.

I do have a few MagSafe Qi2 chargers and other MagSafe items for my iPhone 17, they all stick to ferromagnetic items and can easily support their own weight so I expect the Fosi md3 to no different

Try a magsafe battery bank, which should be in a similar weight category as the MD3 :D

My 5000mah and 10000mah MagSafe battery banks are currently stuck to the side of my desk cabinet, they use 15n and 17n magnets so it takes quite a bit of force to remove them - see below for what I use, very slim but they are only 15w Qi2 MagSafe charging so I may buy the new Qi2.2 versions when they are released with 25W of charging as more power is always better….isnt it? ;)

Some newer power banks come with low power modes to extract more of their internal capacity, so..perhaps not :D

Much obliged for testing your magsafe banks and proving me wrong!
