Hello I've got a question are they releasing revised Fosi DS2? Because on ali shop I found a seller with both versions named DS2-2024 and the new one DS2-2025. Does anyone have more info about this?

edit found this pic and also there is new color variant https://fosiaudio.com/pages/dac-headphone-amplifier-ds2

Last time I checked there was an earlier ESS DAC based DS2 and a Cirrus-Logic based DS2 2024.
First time I've heard about 2025 version.

Edit: this si the new one: https://fosiaudio.com/products/fosi-audio-ds2-2024-dac-headphone-amplifier

Looks like they've updated the balanced power in their specification as well, it's no longer 500 mW as stated when DS2 was released.

Looks like the one you linked is not new, because it has 32bits/384kHz DSD256 model just like already available since last year.

The new one looks like a silent revision being available since just few days or weeks is 32bits/768kHz DSD512 model with also improved SNR and THD

Still confused why it's not available at offcial Fosi store yet? But some sellers are already offering it on aliexpress. I'm wondering if it's worth getting 2025 over 2024, especially wheter they fixed some minor issues that's been reported by many users.

The one you linked is the old DS2 2022 version with dual ESS9018 dac chips. The actual one (2024 edition) uses dual CS43131, honestly can't find anything about a 2025 version.

But they didn't update the picture above

Then why there are two different DS2 variants on marketing pictures shown above?

If the forum allows it I will link aliexpress to 2025 version. Anyways it's simple to find just type Fosi DS2 DS512 or Fosi DS2 2025.

Still confused... especially because I've just ordered one on amazon, which most probably will be 2024 Cirrus one. I wouldn't want to find myself in position that in a few days or weeks everyone will be praising alleged 2025 revision and ditching the "old one".

My unit finally arrived so I can share initial impressions: good build quality and sound, however it would be nice they included some app for settings operation.

Soundwise it's very good when it wants to be, but it's not the case with every device. For example it provides higher quality audio when plugged to my Realme smartphone, then DS2 is showing green led. However with my Samsung Galaxy there's red led and the sound is worse. I've learned led indicates sampling rate / gain mode and it should be able to be manually changed by pressing both volume rockers simultaneously, but it dosen't do anything for me both on Realme and Samsung. I've got no control over it, been testing both same settings in the music app.

On top of that I've noticed with Realme there's some sound delay cutting first second of music, as well as muting whenever I jump to different parts of track. None of that happens with Samsung device, but the sound seems to be low gain (red light) as oppose to high gain on Realme (green light).

Will test it more. I'm debating wheter to return it back to Amazon, but may keep it, cause it was only 40$ brand new and it's good for occasional listening sessions and as a novelty small audio dongle with big sound, however at this point I wouldn't recomend it as primary dac-amp, because of the issues mentioned.

If I can suggest a flawless app for smartphone, it is Onkyo Player. I've tested also Neutron, but the only bit perfect is Onkyo. Tested with RME bitperfect files. I use with iPhone but I think there is also for Android. I suggest also an adapter that with a USB plug and a charging plug because the Fosi is very power hungry.

If you cannot change the gain by pressing the 2 volume rockers simultaneously, you have the latest (2024 version) of DS2... Its normal... In this version the gain is always set to HIGH .
The colours you see on the device's LED , is the specific device's digital audio's native sampling rate . This is normal too..... For example, my old Lenovo tablet's native digital audio is at 96 Khz (Green light) and on my modern Oneplus phone is at 48 Khz (Red light). I can change this only by using special apps ( e.g. Usb Audio Player ) and local audio files...

I'm sure you can't describe DS2 as "slightly warm", it's a transparent DAC/amp, it doesn't colour the sound at all - which is how it should be. Just saying this for the benefit of the new member you were talking to.
You cannot be sure, based on static measurements done here on ASR, adopting very simplified measurement models. According to this, what is done and presented here by @amirm - almost all devices are the same, but it’s far from true considering listening to music. We still have not established methods to measure brains reactions to slightly different transients of dynamics in music and its correlations with harmonics levels. And that is what people actually can hear (brain is sensitive to it, what is already known). And thats what may bring slightly different listening experiences of different DACs implementations, especially during longer listening sessions - not fast double blind testing.

It’s far more interesting topic science-wise. Fortunately there are few people interested in it and they will offer us something new, not another „device measuring exceptionally as any other” ;-)

I've been using the DS2 on my Samsung Galaxy phone for 6 months. Works perfectly with Fiio Music App.

Yes, this thing drives everything better than the physical drivers themselves By far. And that is 20dBs
But it has some non sound issues described by others and they are way to loud (to much gain) for sensitive gear.
Not noise related, but protecting your hearing and equipment

just getting on this thread to ask; any solution already for the sound "fade in" issue?

Very unpractical but on pc you could keep a silent audio track playing constantly in loop, this will keep the dongle from going in sleep mode avoiding the fade-in when other audio signals are played.
Clearly it won't work if you want to use exclusive mode in audio player, that will prevent the dongle to be used from different programs at the same time.

Hi, I’ve had the Ds2 a few months, it replaced a FiiO dongle when I moved from lighting to usb-c on iPhone. Love it, sounds really great on the go. Set up question please. Amazon music app on iPhone 15 to Ds2. Light is always red, so I assume I’m getting 44.1 cd quality. Is it the iPhone down sampling higher rates in Amazon? Amazon is set to hi-res in the app. Does not impact use at all, but I’m curious. Thanks.
