For Streaming local media only, Wiim Pro Plus vs Ultra ...or something else?

Hi!
I dont currently have any streaming music service nor plan for any any time soon..my need for a streaming device is just to play my local stored media. I currently have the files in a drive connected to my router and shared that way.
I wouldnt mind just connecting to the Wiim itself as I think its possible with the Ultra.
Or is there a better option out there for my specific needs? I will be using the Wiim built in DAC from either Ultra or Pro Plus as I dont have any other DACs aside from the one built into my Denon 3800h.
I have read the DAC in the Pro Plus is better but measurements seem almost identical if not 1 more point for the Ultra lol

Thoughts? No DIY stuff please. Thanks

PS I considered others like Fiio SR11, Arylic S10+ etc but ended up removing them from my list.

I know you said no DIY, but setting up a Raspberry Pi with Volumio or Moode and connecting it to a DAC is easy. However, I understand it is off the table.

My suggestion is Wiim. If you step up to the Ultra you get the on screen info and the Pro Plus is a nice in between option with a good built in DAC compared to the basic Wiim puck. I would decide what you want to spend and pick the Wiim that has the features you need.

I'll second the DLNA option if you can look into that. You should be able to go straight into the Denon through your local network.

Denon also has their HEOS streaming, that I don't know much about.

Lyrion Music server is designed for locally stored music. All the Wiim streamers include the "player" software (aside from the Mini).

DLNA . Assuming your router also supports it.
Yes, DLNA is a great option, especially since GabrielPhoto's Denon X3800H is a DLNA-compatible endpoint - so no need to buy a WiiM ...
but as @dedobot said, this assumes the router mentioned in post #1 is capable of running a DLNA server.
@GabrielPhoto can you tell us the brand/model of your router?

If the router does not have a DLNA server, then the next best option is, indeed, a WiiM - the Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra have the ability to access SMB network drives, and can play directly from there. You would be limited to using the WiiM Home interface, but I guess that's OK.

Unless you want gapless playback or some other optional capability, in which case it becomes a lottery as those capabilities aren't usually mentioned by manufacturers. No harm in trying it though.

Lyrion does gapless playback with Wiim as a player. All my old Renaissance mix CDs from the 90s play just fine :)

I'm a big fan of Lyrion, myself - I have run Lyrion on a Windows computer and also on a Mac Mini.

But with the hardware listed by GabrielPhoto in the original post -

I can't see it's possible to run Lyrion on a commercially available router. Yes, routers sometimes include a DLNA server function, but never LMS/Lyrion.

However from other posts on this forum I see that @GabrielPhoto is running Emby on some form of server ... so it appears there is other hardware available which was not mentioned in the original post.
Maybe GabrielPhoto now has Lyrion running on that server??

Not yet but I am planning to try it this weekend :)

SMSL DP5SE DAC can do that for you, readily, as it does for me.
I use a 6TB (WD MyCloudEX2 Ultra) NAS music library, 75 feet away.
I guess that would be like "short-hop" streaming.

Great! I strongly recommend you enable the "Material Skin" plugin, which then lets you control Lyrion from the Material Skin user interface - accessed from any web browser on the same network.

Thanks for the tip

Material Skin provides a more modern looking, scalable and touch-friendly web interface than the default, but from a laptop or desktop I revert to the default skin. I can't remember exactly why - something I do regularly that I couldn't find on Material Skin I think. There are bits I prefer from each. There are also phone apps like iPeng for iOS and Squeezer for Android.

Well I mostly or almost exclusively will use my phone

Once you have Lyrion up and running you can try the many interfaces available for it, and decide on your favourite.
From another forum thread I think you have an Android phone - the Android apps I'm aware of for Lyrion are -
Squeezer
SqueezePlayer
Orange Squeeze
Squeeze Ctrl

Another tip - I understand as endpoints you have a WiiM Ultra, and also a Denon X3800H.
Lyrion control apps will "see" the WiiM Ultra straight away - because the WiiM Ultra is LMS/Lyrion-compatible.
But the X3800H has only DLNA-compatibility, so if you want to use the X3800H you will need to enable the Lyrion "UpNP/DLNA Bridge" plugin.
