There's also ferrofluid drying up in tweeters as a common issue with older speakers. I don't know if that applies to the Focal Scala, however. Most speakers don't deteriorate unless they are damaged or electrically, mechanically, or environmentally "abused".

I do! What really scares me is 80kg each carry to first floor thoughIf you like the Utopia series, then buy them. I think the later series would be worth the additional £1000 or so.
For context, I once missed/passed on a pair at AUD $17000 (so a bit more) and regret it still.
The later series is v2 right? It’s the 1000£ cheaper oneIf you like the Utopia series, then buy them. For context, I once missed/passed on a pair at AUD $17000 (so a bit more) and regret it still.
Some speakers age well. I bought my Magnepan 3.6/R new in July 2001. After 23+ years of daily use they still function and measure like new, meeting OEM specifications.Came across a seller having focal scala for, what appears to be, great price -9000$..: however the slight caveat is it’s from 2013… are there some major cons to having that old speakers ?
Yes, the mass is considerable! You may have to factor in one of those triple-wheel stair trolleys and good ratchet-tensioned straps. And some helping hands.I do! What really scares me is 80kg each carry to first floor though

~12 years is not a big deal for speakers, it's said that capacitors in the crossover can start to go bad after 20 years, you will want to test more rigorously after that.Came across a seller having focal scala for, what appears to be, great price -9000$..: however the slight caveat is it’s from 2013… are there some major cons to having that old speakers ?
Will I have big problem DPSing them to small listening space? currently at focal diablos but the room is 4.5m x 3.5m and listening space is only 2mx3.5m (I know I know!). Just keen to get this deal for when I'll be moving to bigger space, and until then DSPing it. Thoughts?
I’m bit confused , seller is saying the cheaper one and v2 is 2017 , and the more expensive 2013. Smells bit fishy to me.I use Sonarworks which takes measurements within a ~2 metre listening radius, I'd certainly try it on a new purchase. Results may depend on what you are using.
But I just noticed the other important purchase choice comparing the two ads: red or black?
