Hah, many will agree with you, but I'm one of the oddballs who dig that Darth Vader look. :)

Is there anything remotely similar to the FX50 on that price range and size? Or is this the best option for an active speaker this size and price?

None. Even the now discontinued Equator Audio D5 coax was a bit larger than the FX50.

*Maiky's EQ is a bit too lean for my taste.

My own EQ: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...-state-your-transducer-too.36816/post-1295130

I've listened and A/B'd this monitor side-by-side the KH120, Fostex 6301, JBL LSR 305, and the Sceptre S8 in the same room. It's not a perfect studio monitor, but it sounds very good to my ears. It can come off as a bit harsh at higher volumes which I presume it due to the higher distortion esp. above 90 dB. Actually, even the smaller Fostex 6301 plays cleaner than the FX50 above 130 Hz or so...

i bought a pair of these a while back, decided they were complete shit within about 10 minutes

was playing this track
and i noticed right away the speaker was completely unable to hit notes under 50hz my KRK Rokit 5 G4 was producing no problem, i explained the issue to Fluid and they said they wernt made for deep bass so it seems very counter intuitive they are bass boosted but then bass is distorted to shit above 90dbSPL

ultimately returned mine and am now considering having a go at the FX80
