Hi All. I'm using the Neumann KH120 ii's and Kali IN-8 V2 for professional studio mixing, both with room correction ( ARC for the Kali's and internal DSP for the Numanns )
I'm getting quite a noticable difference in bottom end, the Neumanns being more pronounced. This could be the room correction, the room, who knows?

I'm also using Sennheiser HD600's as a third reference but they've always sounded bass light to me, especially below 50HZ where I can't really hear very much. I know that these are considered to be excellent reference headphones but I don't think I'm getting the full picture so I'mwondering if there are any headphones out threre ( under £500 ) which are known to be flat or fairly accurate?

There are lots of headphones which are fuller in the bottom end ( the dreaded "Beats" for example ) , but I'm looking for accurate, not enhanced

This is all subjective of course and most listeners probably wouldn't want "flat" as it tends not to be pleasing but I thought I'd ask

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Pascal

What's your budget?

EDIT:Closed back AKG K371 Austrian audio X60 comes to mind. The former I've used personally and recomend even if the build quality is not impressive. The tuning quality is excellent, in roundups it's said to be competitive with 3 times pricier headphones in that regard. Open back designs like HD600 can't retain the bass frequencies fully, it's a matter of physical limitations. An option worth considering for clean bass extension is IEMs, I like the Truthear Hexa a consumer-oriented product that by coincidence is tuned with a moderate bass boost "monitoring-style".

Thanks. The Austrian audio's aren't recommended in reviews on ASR so I'll probably pass on those. I'll check out the AKG

The AKGs are the best package for Harman neutral when considering bass extension on the cheap and without EQ. With EQ, you will have more options like the FiiO FT1s, and the Shure's 440A and 840A. All of them have emphasized bass that would need dialing down to sound "flat"; a simple negative low shelf filter will do it though.
