In fact, foobar2000 ditched the DirectSound output and switched to WASAPI shared mode since version 1.6 which solved the limiter issue when using the player's built-in volume control and therefore I don't need to use ASIO anymore. Now I only use ASIO in DAWs.Yes, the downside to shared mode is that some audio file content played through Foobar2000 will be subject to rate conversion if it differs from whatever the Windows audio panel is set to.

Also, foobar2000 1.6+ allows automatic resampling using dedicated resamplers within the player rather than the one on Windows mixer as well.
