You do mean level matched and without peeking, right? If not, all bets are off and any comparison is useless.directly compare it

You’re preaching to the choir. I’ve already seen both videos and agree with Amir.

You may want to edit that and remove everything after the first "?" in that link. All kinds of juicy tracking information in there. It was very recently listed on Amazon (like in the last 24 hour!) and is already out of stock :’-(.
I went ahead and ordered it anyway (I’m curious to directly compare it to my SMSL SU-10 ES Sabre DAC). According to this website the SU10 is at the very tippity top of the measurement hierarchy.

Actually, this is all that is needed really; You may want to edit that and remove everything after the first "?" in that link. All kinds of juicy tracking information in there.
Thank you for pointing out my mistake (I’ve edited my post and used the link that JSmith kindly provided). You may want to edit that and remove everything after the first "?" in that link. All kinds of juicy tracking information in there.
I don't really get enclosing the tubes in a very ordinary-looking chassis - isn't the glowing glass bits part of the appeal?
Anyway, not a product for me.
My quote still had the full link.Thank you for pointing out my mistake (I’ve edited my post and used the link that JSmith kindly provided).

without the ear bleeding harshness of an AK4499. Transparent and airy sound, that makes any ESS9039PRO sound like a flat uninvolved borefest.

Thats my opinion and I fully stand behind it. Why are R2R DACs the most sought after? Just a coincidence or simple "marketing shenanigans"?
Whatever happened to the mods herding nonsense like this to its own thread
It's not an "opinion" - AKM DACs having "ear bleeding harshness" is a falsifiable positive claim with heaps of objective evidence against, and zero evidence for. In other words, it's absolute bulls**t. I don't care how or why people spend their money, just take this BS somewhere else.Thats my opinion and I fully stand behind it. Why do people pay 5+ times the price for a good R2R DAC, when they can have a flat and "correct" Sigma Delta DAC for around 200 bucks? I guess everyone is just a fool, right?
MY evidence are my own ears. I do not need some fancy graph or scientific measurements. I can hear and feel the harshness and so do many others. Thats why we choose R2R DACs and Tube PRE-AMPs. But I guess you would be totally okay when people hear rip on R2R DACs and Tube AMPs.It's not an "opinion" - AKM DACs having "ear bleeding harshness" is a falsifiable positive claim with heaps of objective evidence against, and zero evidence for. That's the fun part: you can't. You really believe you do, that's what it is: a belief.I can hear and feel the harshness and so do many others.

"BECAUSE THE GRAPH SAID SO!"

May I suggest that you forcibly argue that ALL DS chips sound the same, and that any difference between any 4499EX or such chip (ESS etc) is bias.I used a Topping D90SE and an ASML with a 4499EX Chip. I hated them and returned them 2 days after. Again, you can post whatever fancy SINAD graph you want, it will never change my opinion that you cant listen to music on such devices. I even go so far to say that those designs arent meant for music enjoyment.
Thats why I will only use R2R DACs.
And on ASR, we do. Whatever you hear with your "ears" is only evidence that you have zero experience doing any kind of serious critical listening.I do not need some fancy graph or scientific measurements.
