Is there a remote possibility that at least some of 'objectivists' on ASR are actually (well) educated (so not merely 'educated' on online forums that may be spouting opinions) on specific subjects and because they have actual knowledge about the matter CAN speak in absolutes ?
If so ... how can anyone who is not well versed on the specifics of those disciplines tell apart the wannabe experts and real experts ?
How do you know which individual knows a thing or two and who fell in 'dogmatism' ?
The guy in this video knows and can explain it well which is a sign of expert knowledge.
Yep, it is a
belief you have. It may well be based on lack of understanding the matter deeply enough and may or may not be true. That decision to use the same comb for all ASR inhabitants is what makes you belief that. Your personal belief how electronics, mechanics, acoustics as well as phycho acoustics works.
It is entirely possible that your understanding of these subjects might be lacking.
While typing my hypothesis I am enjoying some soothing Jazz as well as other music genres and don't worry about the electronics nor transducers nor psycho-acoustics knowing full well that my brain always plays tricks on me. The biggest one being that I get the illusion that I am hearing instruments and performers as if I were there but at a volume of my choosing.
I hope you got the '
enjoying music and never worrying about the engineering' part. Also not gazing at plots all day but only when required.
Aaahhhhh..
The 'but' means you question facts and give that research a twist so that you can ignore the facts as you see fit.
Indeed. Audio reproduction is not 'science' (as in research) but a matter of applied science, engineering.
The human subjective experiences is the perception part and have no
direct relation to the science part.
A totally different part of science.
Of course one can discuss taste (does everyone have the same preference ?) or 'the feel' of a car.
It is simply venting personal experience. Often with the goal to express feelings or get confirmation of others.
In the end audio IS about the personal experience. The thing that is forgotten is the 'personal experience' bit which is mistaken as a 'fact' because the you heard, smelled, saw, noticed, experienced, detected something THUS that must be real.
Your brain lies to you all the time.
Some so, some are here because they are interested in the how and why, others are here to educate, learn or converse with peers (like minded people).
In the same way subjectivists converge on forums where their personal experiences are represented. An ideal place to talk trash and ridicule others that don't believe what you believe.
I would say ... don't confuse your personal map with the terrain of others and turn that into your argument.
The science is clear about 'feelings' and perception. Thinking it is safe to disregard aspects you feel don't apply to you (or like-minded people) is well....
Lets do... thread with the most replies:
as it says on the tin, music we are enjoying or planning to listen too today.. i hope we all post our music here, all genres all formats so we can share our passions and learn from each other.

Yep, that is curiosity.
Yep, that is research. What previous research is clear about that when human interaction is involved one should be aware of the pitfalls of 'subjective opinions' and test with scientific rigor.
Meaning level matched, performance checked with accurate measurements, blind and statistic valid experiments and one needs to draw the correct conclusions IF the goal is to understand why, how and how much.
This is something entirely different as 'listening and enjoying'.
That is just personal experience and one can have whatever thoughts/ideas/theories about the how and why and look for people who confirm that.
It could be possible that certain aspects of audio reproduction are a fully solved (or should I say clear scientific consensus) 'problem'.
That might be 'defended' by people possessing that specific knowledge. Especially when people with substantially less factual knowledge on the subject but with personal ideas about how it works come to ASR and educate them in 'how music reproduction' works based on their personal experience not hindered by actual deeper knowledge about aspects.
Don't confuse personal lack of proper understanding about specific aspects with personal opinions/ideas based on experiences one had or read/saw opinions of others.
Consider that all human beings fall in the same 'trap'. They can experience the same and then conclude they MUST be right without fact checking and testing their perception properly.
Enjoy your hobby (enjoying music).
I can assure you ASR inhabitants also do this... the enjoying music stuff. They just also like to talk about the engineering and science part of it all and know perception is 'flawed' and even they will fall into the traps. They prefer to use 'test methods' that are known to eliminate most of the traps.
To get back on topic...
The FiiO warmer is a good looking (subjective.. I know) DAC device that has a DELIBERATE deviation from 'accuracy of reproduction' that many people like/prefer.
It is very measurable and understood why.
'We' are still waiting for a complete set of (all required) measurements to verify what is already known about the technical performance.
Enjoy the music... every way you want/like.
Fine to vent personal opinions and hands-on experiences too but realize that they are just personal experiences and not actual facts even when others experience the same.
The Warmer is a fun DAC targetted to people that 'want something different'. If you like/prefer it FiiO's mission is succeeded and they get sales.
