FiiO/Snowsky Tiny Portable DAC & Headphone Amplifier

got the B. just tried it out now. loud hissing on the IEM i have on hand on 4.4. couldnt get it to stop hissing. will try on another phone when i get home.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to connect a usb drive (to access flac files) with an otg adapter to the usb port on the tiny A version?

Same here. And this is independent of phones and IEMs; the hissing is just stronger with low imp IEMs.
An official CS told me to set it to UAC 1 mode, but I can not find this setting in the FiiO Control web app; I guess this is misinfo, unless the Android app somehow has this feature.

No, this is not a DAP (Digital Audio Player).
You’re obviously correct if you wonder about Tiny-A as a USB host—it is not a DAP; where the power would come from?
I believe @DazST question is about the auxiliary USB-C “power” port: besides the charging pass-thru feature, can it be used as an OTG port for your phone (not Tiny-A!), e.g. with a USB drive? Put it another way, is Tiny-A a USB hub?
This is a good question… :)

Okay, got it, this is an interesting question

I did a few tests with a laptop and a DAP (didn't have a USB drive & OTG adapter. After plugging Tiny-A into my laptop and looking at the USB information, it does see an audio device (Tiny-A), an HID interface, but no USB hub.
I can charge my DAP (or iPhone) from Tiny-A plugged into my laptop. Power goes: Laptop > Tiny-A > DAP / iPhone.
If I plug Tiny-A into my DAP (or iPhone), I can definitely charge my DAP (or iPhone) from a charger with the pass-thru feature. Power goes: Charger > Tiny-A > DAP /iPhone. I didn't try to charge my laptop as I think to remember Tiny-A has a fairly low power limit.

So, Tiny-A "aux. port" is a bi-directional power pass-thru. But I don't think it can carry data, Tiny-A is not a USB hub.

Yes, that is indeed what I meant. Sorry for not making it clearer.

Thanks for testing it. I decided to order one of these (Tiny A) myself so when it arrives I'll try it with a usb thumb drive.

I received the Tiny A last night and I'm quite impressed with it so far. Definitely better than my previous generic dongle and sounding very good with my IEMs. I particularly like how snug it fits to the bottom of the phone which makes it much nicer for carrying in my pocket compared to a regular dongle. Haven't had a chance to play around with the app and eq yet but will probably give that a go on the weekend.
I also tried to plug in a usb stick but unfortunately, as predicted, it doesn't appear to have any capacity to transfer data - only charging. Oh well, that would have been a nice bonus as an inelegant way to get extra storage but no biggie.

So I've spent some more time listening to this today connected to my samsung phone (with UAPP enabled) and honestly, for a $35 AU dac amp, this is silly good. Plenty of power for my IEMs (Gate truthear and Zero:2), plus PEQ via the FiiO app, and the ability to charge the phone at the same time. This combination makes an awesome portable system. So glad I decided against buying a DAP.

A picture of FiiO Snowsky Tiny B (left), Fiio Jiezi (4.4mm version) and, for reference, CIXUN USB-C to XLR cable (reviewed by Amir a few weeks ago) internals:

Tiny B and Jiezi use a SpaceTouch SPV4040 USB bridge/DSP/DAC/Amp.

The CIXUN cable is one of these, now common, TTGK CB1200AU. I included it here as it is allegedly a custom version of that SPV4040 (Side note: the CIXUN cable is WalkPlay-enabled, offering 8x PEQ filters).
Perhaps more interesting (at least to me! :)) is Tiny B little IC on the left of SPV4040:

Difficult to read, but I believe it's a HT97220 from "Heroic Technology". I didn't know this chip, it's a very-compact low-power, single-ended amplifier with integrated charge pump—see attached datasheet (pdf, in Chinese). I'm not sure if it feeds both the 3.5 and 4.4mm outputs on Tiny-B (haven't checked the ports wiring), but you can use both 3.5 and 4.4mm ports at the same time (this, I checked with two headphones ).

Most likely doable... as soon as FiiO/Snowsky publishes a firmware update for Tiny A/B... ;) AFAIK, no FW update is available yet. Another approach would be to craft a Tampermonkey script to deceive the FiiO Control WebApp—making it think the JM11 is a Tiny A or B (see this post for an example with WalkPlay and NiceHCK Octave: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/.../nicehck-octave-dongle-dac.65535/post-2433992)

In the meantime, I checked JM11 with the SpaceTouch (production-intent) EQ tool, and yes, it has 8x PEQ filters available :

trying flash jiezi firmware to jm11 not work

can you share spacetouch eq tool?
It’s available as part of the Configuration Tool, SDK, etc. available at : http://8.140.228.49
The Configuration Tool zip file download was flagged by my PC as containing a Trojan (Win32/Suschil!rfn). I did the extract in a Sandbox, and the files were scanned as virus free.
You need to install LibUsbDotNet for the EQ tool to work.

thanks, also LibUsbDotNet also making flash tool work

but dont do that, flash jiezi fw will make your dac bricked

Picked up one of these last week to use with my laptop when in the office. I'm really stunned at how great this tiny little device is, and at such an amazing price. It has no problem running my sundara closed with balanced out and Oratory EQ applied. It gets plenty loud enough for me while working, although I can imagine EQ profiles that require -10db or more preamp gain might end up struggling a bit for volume (such as with my Fidelio X3).

I'm not sure I'd want it hooked up to my phone while moving around in my pocket as it could apply some leverage to the socket, but if the phone is flat on a desk, or in my case using it with a laptop, then it's all good.

It really is a great little dac/amp. I use mine (tiny A version) mainly with my phone and have found it sits nice and secure in the usb port without wriggling around. Would be very interested to see it measured.

I picked up one of these for my hols. It, of course doesn’t work with the iPhone FIIO app. It does work with the web app on my Mac, but not with Safari, I had to download Chrome.

Not quite figured out the AutoEQ function. Applied a profile for my headphones, but it just ended up blasting sound with a huge amount of gain. I need to look again to find a master gain slider.

Overall though, it does a good job. Feels pretty secure attached to an iPhone with a case.
