At present, I am not sure what chip was used, but I have ordered one to test its effectiveness.
According to official images, its PEQ only has 5 segments.

update:from a japen website, the chip is KT02H02. At present, Fiio control does not have the support of JA11. After receiving the goods, I may need to consult the customer service of Fiio to get software support

From price and specs I presume something similar to what is used in Moondrop or Tanchjim DSP cables.

From the indicators, this chip seems to be higher than the two DSP lines, such as Tanchjim's DSP cable only supports 96khz 24bit, does not support DSD

Well, this is why i said "similar" ;)

surprised there's not more excitement here

but i guess the issue will be the device is tied to their mobile app and the PEQ cannot be manuipulated in Windows

Moondrop Free cable can go up to 32/384 so my guess is still a possibility. I remember someone here mentioning Moondrop using a KTMicro so maybe...

I just received mine, this thing is tiny in comparison to other dongles, app is slooooow and clunky but it was expected I had to restart the app disconnect and connect the dongle for the custom EQ to work, there is a 5 band fixed graphic EQ , gain control and a parametric EQ with 5 bands, you have the option for Low-Shelf, High-Shelf and Peak filters with a frequency response from 20-20kHz a gain form -12dB to +12dB and Q from 0.25 to 8.00, frequency response can be adjusted in 1Hz increments, filter gain in 0.1dB, Q in 0.01 and general gain in 0.5dB. There is an import function and you can save custom presets (I dont know how many yet, still experimenting) or download from the web, there are just a few and the descriptions are in Chinese.

It is supposed to have a more granular volume control (up to 60 steps) but I can get it to work, with the app on or in the background volume control on the cable mic/control is unresponsive and the hardware buttons work with the usual android 15 steps also the multi-function button does not work within the app on so no no next or previous song.
I figure I load the EQ I want and disable the app until needed again.

****BUT all of this is meaningless because of a huge channel imbalance (low level plus no highs on the left channel) on Android* (which was the intended use), on the PC it works as supposed to but with the EQ on it reduces the volume considerably, it might be the gain implementation (I'll experiment later).
*Tried with different phones, tablets, IEMs, cables, music players, streaming and YT. Even uninstalled the app, with and without EQ and tried with another phone without the app, same thing.

I'll wait for a few weeks/months to see if it's corrected with a firmware update if not off to the drawer.

EDIT. I experimented a bit with the general gain and if I increase the gain to the maximum the volume is as it should I didn't detect any distortion but just in case I lowered the intended pre-amp from the maximum gain.

UPDATE: I posted on Head-Fi just to see if there was a solution for the channel imbalance and a representative from Fiio responded that by tomorrow it should be fixed.

I'll edit this post if/when the issue is fixed.

EDIT. Updated to firmware version 1.7 and all works perfectly now, also no need to disconnect to add a custom EQ, still experimenting but all looks good.

I did a bit more testing and the only thing that is not working now are the Shelf filters, even 12dB changes make little difference, Peak filters are OK (I checked a bit against EQ Apo with 2 different IEMs), I had to rise the master volume because otherwise it was a bit low (I raised it to the maximum minus the intended pre-amp) and now it's plenty loud with no distortion as far as I can tell.

I really like this format more than a DSP cable and even if the filter count is on the lower side the range of adjustments is really good and the app while a bit slow and clunky is better than the Moondrop I tried some time ago (Free cable). Also at first I thought that the small size looked less premium but in fact is way more practical and easy to handle.

*I posted the issue on the "official" thread on Head-Fi with any luck it get sorted as fast as the imbalance.

Looks like a great device (with the firmware fix) so I ordered one. Does the FiiO Control website work with the cable?

For those who don't want to mess with a mobile App (or want to change the EQ on Windows or on a Mac) this is a nice option - at least it is with the KA17

Grrrr... 7.8 euros, don't need it but couldn't resist. If the app is only a little bit better than the freedsp, will already be worth it.

apparently this is a intro price

goes up from $9 after this financial year

tbf fiio does have a good rep about delivering this sort of thing... i mean they did respond quick with the firmware

The app is not bad at least for saving EQs into the dongle, I don't keep it on the background, the only "problem" is that turning off and then on the EQ and on some changes the EQ resets to default (only on the app the custom EQ remains in the dongle), but is a matter of a few click to restore it to the custom one, I have a few EQs stored on the phone now and is fast and easy to transfer them to the dongle. Also if you use a cable with control/mic, the control does not work while the app is on but once it's off the buttons work normally again.

The dongle is good even as a standalone without using the EQ, the smaller size is easier to handle on the move than bigger ones.
I just have been using it for a few days but as far as sound quality I haven noticed anything out of the ordinary.
