FiiO FT1 Pro Open-Back Planar Magnetic

@sai from the unheard of headphone lab reviewed several ear pads with measurements of these headphones. See the "Notes on Ear pads" section of the article.
Great thank you :)

This FIIO look like the perfect one for me and I do not need to buy another DAC. I was looking for the DT 900 pro but I would need to change my M-Audio M-Track-Solo. So the budget would be double at least even if I sell the M-Audio.

I actually have a Superlux HD681 that have a great sound (in my opinion) after some EQ and I change the pads for a better confort. However I get some ear fatigue that I do not get with my gaming headset (beyerdynamic MMX100).

The Fiio FT1 pro seems the good one. What are the other options ? Sundara ?

Thanks in advance :)

They didn't suit me. I returned them.
Sundara ?
I tried Sundara and Ananda Nano. They were OK, but something didn't work for me.
You always have to adjust them this way and that, the materials are so-so, your ears are always hot and sweaty. I returned them.
What are the other options ?
Of the many open back headphones I've owned, my favorites to date are the Sennheiser HD650 / HD800S and the FiiO FT1 PRO.
Still planning to try the Audeze LCD-5, DCA Expanse and Focal Utopia, but they are too expensive IMO.
Maybe one day, these companies will eventually offer more budget-friendly alternatives with the same signature sound.

This is impressive for the FT1 pro according to the fact that you own (or owned ?) a HD800S

I will probably order this FiiO thank you.

these headphones seem like the perfect purchase for me. Not so long ago, I ordered a hiby r6 2025 player, and immediately the question arose about buying full-size headphones for music. Of the ones I have now (the monitor Radiotehnika TD01C and fiio JT1), they don't seem to unlock the player's potential. The JT1 is a great headset for gaming and everyday use, so I immediately started looking towards fiio. I ordered for only 170 dollars, I hope there will be no deception from the seller (delivery from China)

Applied the same PEQs to the Equalizer APO + FiiO KA17 dongle on my portable setup. Sounds great!

As someone who also owns the FT1 Pro and KA17.

do you have the EQ on the KA17 itself? or do you just use Equalizer APO? I've tried making some EQ's on the KA17 but it never works for some reason. If you have the EQ on device id love a export of it ha.

thanks

With the FiiO KA17, I only use the Equilizer APO+Peace. As far as I remember, it worked with the FiiO Control app, but I prefer the Windows-based app to tinker with on the go. Make sure the EQ is enabled in the device settings for the FiiO Control app to work properly

I can test the built-in PEQ functionality of the KA17 for you next time.

So i want to buy a better cable for this heaphone and i found this OpenHeart copper cable from ali.
There's two versions, 8 cores and 16 cores. The 16 is way more expensive. Which one should i get? What's the difference?

The price and the story around them.

These cables all are of good quality, supple and (as far as I know) are low in microphonics.
As the connector goes partly inside the headphone ensure the diameter of the connector housing will fit into the hole in the housing.

Buy a cable that is supple, low in microphonics and of the right length, looks good to you and has the connectors you need and does not cost much.
Don't buy cables thinking they can 'fine tune' the sound or 'improve the sound quality'.
Don't fall into the 'copper/pure copper/OFC/silver'silver plated copper' trap.

While looks, price, length and used connectors are easy to see in the adds the problem is that suppleness and microphony remain unknown.

A good cable does not have to cost more than $ 30.-

The original cable is stiff, springy and would replace them myself too.

I am more than sure that the cable does not have such a significant effect on the sound signal that it could be heard in any headphones. This is pure marketing whether you want it or not. I bought a couple of interconnect cables on Aliexpress and they are normal and working (their cost is from 20 to 30 dollars). In general, regarding the replacement of the complete cables for Fiio FT1 Pro, I think this idea is justified only if you have extra money and you just want to have the best quality even if you do not notice the difference. However, solderdude above wrote everything you need to know and I agree with him.

I listened to the FT1 Pro headphones with the Hiby R6 ||| 2025 player and I must say I am in love with these planar headphones! The sound is very precise and pleasantly clear. I must say that none of the headphones I have listened to before managed to achieve such a stage and volume of sound in full-size headphones. They are a little heavy - yes, but you can lie on your back in them without discomfort, which is very important for me since I prefer to listen to music at home. The open design does not separate you from the outside world, but on the contrary, brings music into it as if you were listening to very good desktop speakers. A great purchase.

The original cable is stiff, springy and has a sleeve that is unpleasant to touch with your body.
I use the OpenHeart 16 core cable https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256805117179142.html
It is very nice and soft, does not tangle and fits well with the FiiO FT1 Pro connectors.
Choose the length and type of DAC/amp connector that matches your devices.
I have two of them - 3 meters 4.4mm balanced ($40) for my desktop setup and 1.4 meters 2.5mm balanced ($25) for my portable setup.

Nice to read it.

I postponed the purchase of these headphones as I got some unexpected expenses. But I did not see any bad review of the FIIO FT1 PRO.

@oratory1990 posted his measurements and EQ preset to the Harman OE target.
1745190714016.png

Preamp: -5.7 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 35 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 1.4
Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71 (bass)
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 600 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 2.0
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 1900 Hz Gain 6.3 dB Q 1.3 (midrange accuracy / shoutiness)
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 2800 Hz Gain -4.2 dB Q 2.3
Filter 6: ON HSC Fc 3000 Hz Gain 0.5 dB Q 0.35 (treble)
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 4050 Hz Gain 1.6 dB Q 3.0 (sharpness)
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 5750 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 6.0 (airiness)
Filter 9: ON HSC Fc 10000 Hz Gain 3.0 dB Q 0.71
Filter 10: ON PK Fc 11300 Hz Gain -2.0 dB Q 6.0

Now I'm wondering how to adapt this 10-band EQ to the RME ADI-2 EQ style: 5 peaking filters, 1 low-shelf filter, 1 high-shelf filter.
Sometimes oratory1990 posts this too, but not for these headphones.

That frequency response looks like a HiFiman planar. It's got the flat bass/mids into a dip at around 2khz.

Removing filter bands 1, 3 and 6 will have the least effect, and the rest should be doable on the ADI-2.
You will have to round some gain factors up or down to the nearest multiple of 0.5
