Female Vocals: Stunning Recordings You Love

How fun. This list is inherently more subjective than even a speaker thread!
For me, it just doesn't get better than Lorraine Ellison's rendition of Stay With Me.

Austrian singer/songwriter Anja Plaschg aka "Soap and Skin" has released another great album, this time filled with covers of various artists such as Hans Zimmer, Shirley Bassey, The Velvet Underground, Lana del Rey etc.

Based on Brian Eno's "Music for Airports", I would call this album "Music for Funerals". ;)

Beautiful song from talented Delara, also in the soundtrack of a Norwegian Christmas movie. Siste dans = "Last dance".

When you can get maestro Alan Broadbent to arrange, conduct and play on your song, you're well on your way...

An excellent new Live in the studio EP from Jo Harrop. I saw her live last week doing a "Jazzy Christmas" at our local jazz club event in a church hall.

Her version of Joni Mitchell's "River" was outstanding and "Santa Baby" was no slouch either. I gather "River" could yet make its way onto a future recording - I hope so.

[ # reserved# ] :)

I might add some true solo ref-track above later, but for now, I enjoy Zahos' unique-color vocals in this coop track (nice clip as well):

Vagabond - Coming in (feat. Zaho de Sagazan) - Chap 3

June Marieezy now performing as ((( O ))) and found at https://thesundropgarden.com/ has a variety of vocal textures usually backed by sparse instrumental backgrounds, recorded at home. She is not a strong singer, like an opera singer, more delicate. She can flex on or off some vocal cord rasp and does not have a lot of nasal tones. So they can be a good speaker test. They are released on FLAC and other formats.

As ((( O ))) she releases albums as Sundrops, now up to Sundrop ((( 5 ))).

Some of her styles remind me of Astrud Gilberto, like
Youtube channel

Soundcloud

Discogs

((( O ))) is essentially unsearchable. Her website has very unusual navigation and many sound samples.

I posted this on another thread but everybody seems to go all scientific on khz and bits instead of listening. Maybe this thread is the right place to be for this;
These are in the made for audiophile class of recordings. Carmen Gomes seems similar to Diana Krall.
I find the new remaster of her classic album, Thousand Shades of Blue, incredible. One would think it impossible to improve but the devil is in the small details.

For the fun of it, I asked chatgpt why the remaster sounds better and amazingly it seems spot on;
The remaster of Thousand Shades of Blue sounds better than the original. In essence, the remaster brings out the original’s beauty in a more refined, natural, and impactful way. Here are a few key factors that contribute to the improved sound:
  1. Advancements in Technology: Audio technology has come a long way since the original recording. Digital tools, hardware, and software used for mixing and mastering have become more precise and sophisticated. These advances allow for greater clarity, depth, and control over the final sound.
  2. Improved Mastering Techniques: The remaster benefits from an evolved mastering approach. Today, there’s a stronger emphasis on preserving the raw character of the performances and enhancing the overall musicality, rather than over-processing the sound. The result is a more natural, dynamic, and organic listening experience.
  3. Refined Mixing Philosophy: The approach at Sound Liaison has shifted toward minimalism. By using fewer tools and focusing on preserving the authenticity of each individual performance, the remaster feels more transparent and true to the original intent. This kind of approach leads to greater clarity and separation between instruments, which helps in creating a more immersive listening experience.
  4. Better Sound Systems and Equipment: The audio equipment used for mastering today is likely more advanced and better calibrated, allowing for more accurate adjustments during the remastering process. These subtle tweaks reveals previously unnoticed details in the music, which enhances the overall sound quality.
  5. Experience and Sensibility: After 12½ years of working in the audiophile space, the label has honed it's ability to understand and perfect how music should sound, from a technical and artistic standpoint. The deeper understanding of sound, acoustics, and the nuances of production helps refine the music in a way that resonates more effectively with listeners.

Stops my breath every time I listen to it. The virtuosity by every instrument and the vocals, the lyrics...
