Feedback problem when playing vinyl records

The material is hardened glass, which I would assume is quite "dead" acoustically. Will test if the dust cover has any influence on the feedback issue.

Easy no-cost idea: What happens if you put the turntable directly on the floor in front of the shelving unit? If the feedback goes away, then maybe it's the shelving unit that needs some dampening.

For an unsuspended design like the Rega, the dust cover should be removed when playing records as it acts like a microphone.

Thanks for the picture.

I am prepared to bet the vibration is being transmitted from the speakers, through that laminate flooring, then up through the legs of your table/stand.

I have two suggestions.

1 - Use a wall mounted stand for the turntable, if the wall is solid enough to hold it.

2 - (I'd try this first since it is relatively inexpensive and easy to experiment with). It is what I did when I had my turntable sat on a pine chest which was acting as a resonant sound box:

Get some compliant vibration absorbing material - I used car sound proofing mats

Get a piece of hardwood (or other high density material - a few layers of 18mm marine ply glued together might work also) about 1.5 to 2 inches thick, and large enough to put under the turntable.

Then put the sound absorbing material between the stand top and the wood and between the wood and the turntable. You could even consider putting it under the legs of the stand.

You can experiment with how much area of mat you use. I had around three inch squares of the material placed every 6 to 8 inches. horizontal and vertical, then one piece under each foot of the turntable.

If you were to use multiple layers of ply -you could also experiment with layers of mat between each layer of ply.

In my application it killed the feedback stone cold dead. Rega turntable also.

Rega p2, p3?
That explained all, I was expecting that answer ("this guy is using a Rega").

I have had one and sell it quickly... using Technics I don't needed anything more. I remember my radio / broadcast time with mk2 in the 80s, a tank used on clubs with high vibrations environment without any feedback.
My brand new mk7 also don't disappoint me... zero feedback close to speakers and without any care.
