I doubt he’s in it for the money though (he has another business for that), and I’d bet his margins will be minimal.I guess every site eventually finds a way to monetize. At least here it is pre-announced and out in the open.
I don't disagree.I doubt he’s in it for the money though (he has another business for that), and I’d bet his margins will be minimal.
Funny stuff. For those of you who do NOT want air shipping, this is what it looks like when it comes by boat:
$70? Sure, no problem.Hey you all...
As some of you know, a few months ago I decided to open an online store to distribution Ascilab speakers in US. This is a thread to keep everyone up to date on where we are and answer questions you have.
As the title says, the name of the new store is "TestedAudio.com." Yes, boringbut descriptive in that nothing will be sold without my personal testing and scrutiny. The site has been registered for a while now and I am working on building the storefront (using shopify.com).
Based on voting from membership (thank you!), we placed a rather large, preliminary order a few months ago. As of this writing, fair number of the speakers are built, and others are being finished.
We have a choice in shipping from Korea to us. Standard shipping will cost half as much as air freight but will take a month or more to get here (and then we have to ship it to you). Air freight on the other hand gets here in a week! Further, for ocean shipping, we have to wait until all the speakers are ready whereas with Air, they can be shipped immediately, letting us fulfill orders almost immediately.
Another aspect is that if everyone come through with their pre-order commitment, we have already pre-sold our first order! Staying with ocean shipping means waiting a month or more for production of the next batch, then another month for shipping. So follow on orders will likely take us to end of the year if not beginning of next year.
If you are interested in these speakers, especially if you have already contacted me, please post whether you would pay a premium of say, $70 to have your order shipped by air. Nothing is a commitment. I just need to know which route we need to take as far as our first order.
If it were up to me, we would go all Air and eat the cost but we just don't have that kind of margin. Hence the quest to find out how much you value the faster and more flexible delivery.
Thanks,
Individual unit testing will be done by manufacturer. We will be done some testing at our end to make sure products are performant but that would be just one sample.Sorry for the diversion from the question about shipping, but especially given the name "Tested Audio" I'm curious what your plans are for routine QC testing?
I would assume, though, that since you're the importer/distributor/retailer that your company would be responsible to consumers for warranty service? Maybe you'd choose to ship them back to Ascilab, but that's between you and them, not you and the consumer. Is that correct? Or is my relationship (as a consumer) directly with Ascilab?Individual unit testing will be done by manufacturer. We will be done some testing at our end to make sure products are performant but that would be just one sample.
We will of course jump on any issues that are found to verify and help company resolve.
This is valuable assurance.Your relationship will indeed be with us. I don't expect any speaker needing to be sent back to Ascilab.
What if someone punctures a driver/radiator membrane or rips off the wire terminals?Your relationship will indeed be with us. I don't expect any speaker needing to be sent back to Ascilab.
Yes to all. What if someone punctures a driver/radiator membrane or rips off the wire terminals?
Will you offer replacement parts? Or out of warranty repair services?
You mean contacting them directly instead of going through us? What would be the benefit to that?Does Ascilab offer those for speakers not sold by them?
No, we won't be replacing entire speakers if a part is bad. Per above, if a customer has the knowledge, we can send them the part to replace or they can send the speaker to us in US for repair.Or can a small damage potentially mean the entire speaker is totalled and needs to be replaced because no spare parts are available?
As a backup in case Tested Audio would function as retailer only, and not as service point as well. You mean contacting them directly instead of going through us? What would be the benefit to that?
Great news! No, we won't be replacing entire speakers if a part is bad. Per above, if a customer has the knowledge, we can send them the part to replace or they can send the speaker to us in US for repair.
There will be a tower speaker:Dear Amir, since now you have voice on Ascilab business, my question is why don't they have a normal floorstander in their pipeline. I can only see base extenders that can be purchased separately, but the cost of having two objects is more than a proper floorstander. Also i wonder what happens to the passive radiator once that the base extender is connected, it becomes a usless waste of money in the best scenario. Why not add a couple of woofers to the C6B and sell it for 2k?
